Individually I don't think these are their best songs ever, but taken in all together with the videos and knowing the concept behind it, it really is their most cohesive work to date. I hope they do another concept EP/album next

When Bryan was younger he had a female friend who started hanging out with a guy whom he thought was a piece of shit, they were at a party and he didn't want her to leave with him. They left together, the guy was drunk, they crashed the car, he survived but the girl went through the windshield and died. Afterwards, the guy tried to "clean up his act" and started showing up to church in a suit and stuff like that. But Bryan just always hated this guy and didn't buy that he changed his life. The EP is a concept album about this guy trying to deal with his guilt over getting this girl killed. He even digs her grave up and fucks her rotting corpse at one point (Return To Passion). It's a really great concept and the videos are absolutely haunting

Damn, that’s heavy (no pun intended). I’ll check out the videos too, I’m sold because Suffocate is such a bad ass video.

This reminds me of arguably the best EP of all time, Broken. Just a burst of rage and despair and frustration from brutal beginning to the bitter end.
I would totally put this right up there with Broken, Jar of Flies and Opiate as best eps ever.
Speaking of, goddamn do LPs seem like they’re going out of style. So many bands releasing songs and EPs primarily. I do miss buying CDs, albums etc, but at least we can listen to anything we want at anytime now.
Like Broken, this works far better as an EP. So much intense lol.
Edit: just checked and all their LPs hover around 30-something minutes. Makes sense to me.

Have seen the animated short that accompanies this now and yeah it's good stuff, the Permanent outro leading up to the final shot is perfection

wtf, I had no clue that was the concept. Really cool ... although ...
"He even digs her grave up and fucks her rotting corpse at one point (Return To Passion)"
This feels really over the top and trying to be 'OMG Shocking, CRAZY!'

It's definitely meant to be a bit jarring (also why the guitar is so skronky during that bit) but the lyrics aren't super tasteless so I don't think they were going for pure shock value, moreso just trying to effectively convey the protagonist losing his sanity

Tbh I would feel bad if this guy genuinely tried to change his life around then had this album written about him
I've met people who were fucking disasters of human beings when I was younger (and actually two that were drunk and killed the passenger) but the next 20 years (so far) of their lives have been like the complete and total opposite and they're some of the nicest people I know now.
I get Brian's anger and all, and I don't know this guy obviously, but I dunno.

Who knows, maybe he loves the album and feels honored!
Doubtful of course but who knows.
This really takes you on a journey, the song titles alone do a really good job of conveying the meaning behind each (once you know the story behind it).

well I got a few metal genres you might get a kick out of if you like stuff like horror

The inverse is also possible but that’s not your circle of people. Guilt is a bitch and can eat you alive.

regarding that part being over-the-top and shocking, it's mostly shocking in a tasteful but extreme Pig Destroyer way, less like in a Cannibal Corpse kind of way. If you're not paying close attention you probably wouldn't even pick up on what he's talking about. It's done well imo
