Exactly! I was expecting more acoustic guitar, less involved production, etc.
don’t get me wrong, it’s probably still her best, but yeah the marketing was a tiny bit misleading

1989 is her best, man.

Just listened to both albums back to back, and yeah Punisher wins big time. Big time. The lyrics pick a bigger punch and Stranger sounds like it was made a bit more for radio. I Know the End is the best song she has written

The biggest problem with this one is that the vocal melodies sound really lazy, like no thought went into them. Luckily the production and lyrics make up for it.

That's the reason I take Folklore over this. Swift just has an ear for melody that Bridgers doesn't quite have yet.

I think the melodies on this are better and more memorable than Folklore

Taylor Swift is also a pop artist and Phoebe is not so I think it just comes down to stylistic differences more than one having a way better ear for melody than the other
|

swift has the same melodies as every other artist in existence

The melodies on Kyoto, Punisher, Chinese Satellite, Savior Complex and I Know The End are all excellent

Good point. When it comes to indie folk, 9 times out of 10 I gravitate towards something that is a little varied (?), melodically. Songs like Mirrorball or August. It's just preferences at the end of the day. Plus this probably deserves a bump.

A lot of modern indie folk/indie rock songwriters don’t realize that they can be melodic without being poppy.

Not....sure....how I feel about it....
Did she have to make out with an old lady? Also I never realized how short she is, I always assumed she was like 6’ lololol. Watching that made me realize how young she actually is
