"This album is a bit more ballad-y than anything they've done before and I think that's a bit part of the reason some people are taking issue with it."

Yeeeeup.

Aaaah, fuck it, 4.5. There is a +0.5 of fanboy here and the fact that i didn't enjoy the last album that much. Turtleneck is my main offender on the new album, but it is short and gave me a good chuckle on the first listening. Not a 5, and I do not seeing myself revising the rating to 5 later.

Just for clarification's sake on the previous page I was talking about the average, not my personal rating. Doof's response made it look like I was giving a personal rating, but I was just relaying the average.

Turtleneck is supposed to be exaggerated I think, like their Helter Skelter or something.

Yeah its defs not a 5 but maaan this album is infectiously understated. Turtleneck is the only real banger here so it sticks out like a sore thumb but I still love it

Can't care enough to tryhard about loving this. Quality album though. Just make sure Trouble has the higher average and we're all good.

'Trouble' and 'Boxer' are better than this.

Then a bit of a toss up between this one and 'High Violet', about even.

'Turtleneck' isn't outright bad, there are some good lines in there.

Less convinced it was a perfect addition to this album. Said it before, release it as a B-Side and it'd probably end up a much loved curio in their discog.

The only song on here I really don't dig is Day I Die. It's such a competent National song in the worst way, and I think the chorus is really hammy and lame.

Agreed that Turtleneck would be a beloved B-side.

People are underrating Turtleneck and overrating the last 4 or so songs imo.
