“that jamie guy who seems to think his opinion on bands is final”
lol my opinion is only final in the sense that I am sure of what I think.
Also I don’t like black metal so I can only be an authority on their post-bm trilogy albums.

yeah jamie's praising of war of the roses is merit enough

Imagine not understanding Marriage. It must be a shallow and pointless existence.

Well, yeah, War of the Roses fucking rules. Honestly though, I'm not much of a Marriage fan either. Bit too bloated and underdeveloped, imo. It's still probably a 3/5 for me, but it's probably my least favorite Ulver album to date

I'll never get how the site average for Wars of the Roses is so low at 3.3, like wtf is that

It's a good album. Higher than a 3.3 IMO but after Shadows of the Sun it was a bit of a letdown for me. It's kind of all over the place. Messe has the same problem, even though I like Messe more. I still think War of the Roses is more enjoyable than this though.

I found Messe to be pretty cohesive, a really beautiful synthesis of classical/chamber music, electronica, and ambient. I get how someone would say Wars is all over the place, but I like the diversity. It's still more focused than Blood Inside for example.

a bloood red COOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAT
WHIIIIITE to the BOOOOOOOONE
i actually think war of the roses is the least "all over the place" of ulver's releases - excepting nattens madrigal. pretty straight-forward rock album with just the flowery closing track
also it features garm's vocals more heavily than the others, i think, maybe less than a childhood's end i guess
did you guys like the norwegian national opera album?

idk Wars is pretty diverse, every song is practically a different genre. There's some goth electro-rock, pastoral ambiance, art pop like on this one, avant-garde weirdness...
Norwegian National Opera is great, someone (possibly you budgie can't remember) convinced me a while back that the alternate versions of the Blood Inside tracks were superior to the album versions, which I hadn't really noticed before.

The Moon Piece is very Philip Glass, really digging that as an intro.

The Moon Piece and the Leg piece are both excellent, really cool they wrote them just for that concert I believe (I haven't found them anywhere else)

I'm on Rock Massif and no lie, this is one of the best concerts I've ever seen in my entire life. I don't know how no one ever talks about this. That setlist is insane, if I was there my brain would melt

i have control of the music at work today, and i am blasting this album... i'm so happy

i'd hate to have to work somewhere where the music choice is shared. oh god

It's not really shared. My bosses have control of the music, but they are on vacation, so that duty has been relinquished to me.
