I wasnt singling you out, it's a sentiment shared by many about this album

Agreed it's his worst or one of em but I harbor no blame for him on this one, hardest thing to go through, ur a different person entirely while reacting to that

i think it's just very unapproachable, without going out of your way to remove it from its context which is especuially hard to do.
Its not my favourite of his either, I think it's too heavily reliant on a particular mindset to really show its greatest assets, compared to say an album like Carrie & Lowell, which i'm sure you'd disagree but I believe has a much more approachable and tangible sadness and depressive elements, or The Skeleton Tree is another good example.
Clear Moon 4 life anyway

@pika if you loved winds poem and clear moon prepare to absolutely not love this
Is it one of those indie campfire acoustic records you spoke of in a different thread? Please tell me it's not. Getting sick of the same shtick in the scene.

| |
its very bare-bones acoustic compared to most of his discography. not that he hasn't had some strong acoustic stuff in the past but there was still a lot of nuance to the production and instrumentation. this is extremely sparing on experimentation in favour of a diary-esque narrative that undeniably conveys the utter misery of his circumstance while failing to impress sonically. sure, that's not the point of the album and its clearly his most personal work: it has every right to exist just the way it is. But that doesn't change the fact that it isn't very interesting if you were looking for another Mount Eerie album for his unique sound palette.

I guess I won't bother then. Lyrics alone never do it for me. Cheers for the heads-up.
Clear Moon and Wind's Poem ftw (the only two I've heard by him)
|
| |
P much that ^^^
|
| |
pika in that case i'd suggest checking Ocean Roar (a counterpart to Clear Moon) and No Flashlight (my favourite) next.
|
| |
Then I'd go to Sauna after that

Ocean roar hella overlooked
Lost wisdom is kinda the good version of this album, or is at least closer sonically to this than his other wonky stuff is

"Lost wisdom is kinda the good version of this album, or is at least closer sonically to this than his other wonky stuff is"
agreed. he also has a lot of great minimalistic stuff in his comps and ep's. i prefer literally all of that to this.
"Ocean roar hella overlooked"
this site doesn't have the attention span for two albums from an artist in one year. hell, people will go ga-ga over something one year and then entirely forget the artist ever existed once they release their follow-up.

AMEN
i dare to think how many sputsheep claim philly boy but never heard it was hot lol
and ocean roar should not be overlooked, one of the best vibes he ever laid down on a project

Cool. Still gotta go through Amon Tobin's stuff first. Fuck me, Adventures in Foam was long af. It was pretty nice, but definitely not something I was able to sit through in one go. Still, a dynamic record for its length.
Bricolage up next.

Also, I was well surprised by how different it was to Fear
|
| |
adventures in foam is interesting as a proto-amon tobin album... he really kicks it up a gear in bricolage and perfects it with permutation. excited for you
|
| |
permutation is quintessential. id say it kind of marks the end of the first phase of his stylistic evolution. with supermodified onward you'll begin to be able to hear how he transitioned into Fear
