I focus on the drums and let the rest sorta wash over me, so the relative lack of clarity in the melodic instruments isn't much of an issue.

I don't know, this kinda production works for Ulcerate and Deathspell. I wouldn't really enjoy it in certain genres, but for impending doom death/black metal I'm pretty okay with it.
|
| |
i might be able to get behind that with any ulcerate record except this one

"every other record by this band is overloud but this one dwarfs em. all the details are drowned out in a nauseatingly loud haze."
Agreed hard dude. Destroyers, or at least my copy of it, was the best sounding to me. I still need to listen to this on a few different platforms but even at a piss poor bit rate I can still hear things walking all over each other. When the riffs and drumming are both quite complex it makes it hard to hear anything over a large, homogeneous wall of noise - which can be cool but not in this case.

after listening to the album on a nice set of headphones i changed my mind about the production. i think its great. only thing i dont like is how the kick drums are more clicky than before. but maybe that was necessary, full sounding kick drums might have overloaded the sound with the way this was produced.

Yeah, production sounds way better on headphones rather than outside of my macbook speakers.
Album is still so dense that I don't think I've fully absorbed this enough yet.
|
| |
i don't hear music on anything except good headphones normally so i don't have anything else to go by

yeah, id say its their densest album in terms of production. all of their albums require full concentration, but this one loses me sometimes. kind of like that about it though.

I just would like a bit more space between the instruments. I find it hard to appreciate how great the composition is when it's so tightly packed.

i enjoy it. it sounds so suffocating.

it sounds so suffocating. [2]
It really does. You'd have to assume they were going for this.
|
| |
i mean the mix is generally really good but it could have been 'suffocating' without death magnetic tier loudness practices
anyway the album is still really good

im fine with the production for the most part though. definitely helps give this a different flavor compared to their other material.

Production didn't really bother me. I don't mind loudness as long as it's not horribly clipped or brickwalled. At the right volume this sounds fine and all the parts are mixed nicely.

I'm not picking up anything wrong with the production, sounds fine to me.

definitely their most apocalyptic and destructive sounding album to date.
|
| |
yeah mine doesnt clip at all so its still pretty listenable
|
| |
If the problem is solely just loudness or compression, just turn it down. It's mixed well enough that those things really aren't an issue.

Finishing up my first listen now. Gonna have to give this another listen or two before I form a real opinion on it. Extinguished Light rips so hard. Production seems fine to me.
