Acid Hologram is like the darkest sounding thing they've done since the s/t.

Acid Hologram is one of my favorites for sure. Up there with the last 4 and Geometric Headdress and Hearts/Wires. Damn, the more I think about it this album really is loaded with good songs. Can't see why so many people seem to find it so boring.

Acid Hologram dark ? Not sure about that, at least not on the same level as s/t.
Yea, the album has good tracks but there are some pretty boring ones.
I find myself skipping Pittura, Xenon and Phantom Bride quite a lot.

So weird to hear an actual guitar lead in Phantom Bride. Thought I was listening to a different band for a sec.

'Can't see why so many people seem to find it so boring.'
I had to force myself to shuffle it all day yesterday after the first listen was underwhelming and now I'm pretty much on board. No idea on a rating yet, though.
'So weird to hear an actual guitar lead in Phantom Bride'
I didn't care for it, honestly.

white pony is acclaimed but it's definitely not ground breaking given that it is influenced by genres and bands that preceded it by many years

Swerve City and Goon Squad had guitar leads that could have easily been considered guitar solos tbh.

"it's definitely not ground breaking given that it is influenced by genres and bands that preceded it by many years"
Doesn't make it not ground breaking to be influenced by some other artists though.

'white pony is acclaimed but it's definitely not ground breaking given that it is influenced by genres and bands that preceded it by many years'
name the bands before making bold statements like this lol.

post rock, shoegaze, and trip hop artists that existed a long time before white pony. throw yourself a bone

It's not groundbreaking to add lite influences from those genres to alternative rock

Album Rating: 3.0
Uh, if it is a new sound made out of old sounds, I'd argue that it IS groundbreaking.
|

Name the nu metal bands that incorporated shoegaze and trip hop elements into their sound on the same level as Deftones before 2000.
White Pony is far from my favorite album, but you're drastically oversimplifying its impact.

Tbh the only Deftones track I even really hear shoegaze in is Beauty School, then again other then Loveless I have relatively no knowledge of what shoegaze is or sounds like.

beauty school isn't shoegaze lol

Idk the chorus and the bridge always reminded me of Loveless but yeah your proabably right.

'post rock, shoegaze, and trip hop artists that existed a long time before white pony. throw yourself a bone'
makes as much sense as saying court of the crimson king isn't groundbreaking because jazz existed before
'It's not groundbreaking to add lite influences from those genres to alternative rock'
depends on the execution and with how well you blend the sounds together and white pony did it pretty well so in that sense it is

Their is literally no post rock influences in WP lol

you could argue the last track borrows just a bit from post-rock
not a strong case though
