Epic vid. I kind of prefer that song and probably some of their other classic stuff in a live recording. What's the consensus for their best live album?
|

I haven't watched all of them but Exit...Stage Left and the Grace Under Pressure tour are definitely the best to watch/listen to in my opinion. Rush in Rio is fantastic to watch but less satifiying to just listen to. The rest of their live performances whenever they perform anything pre-Presto was done better in studio but worth watching with friends or if you care about their material past the synth era/interested to hear them with different production.

yea mixing is atrocious on rush in rio, great crowd but i find that one hard to listen to
all the worlds a stage, exit stage left and grace under pressure all rock. i really like their R30 tour dvd too

The Bravado performance on R30 man that shit makes me wanna cry; may hear it all one day. The Blu Ray of Rio sounds better than the DVD apparently but yeah watching it on loud speakers is the best experience. Oh and the bonus disc from the 2112 40th anniversary boxset is fucking wild, Geddy was insane.

I remember R40 being good too. I'll check out some of the songs from Exit Stage Left which seems like the most popular live recording, and the Grace Under Pressure one. Some of the later live performances are nice too cause Geddy's voice isn't as high-pitched since he's older, which I appreciate haha

Another fyi Exit Stage Left sounds so different from the live album vs the live dvd. The live album sounds like usual 80s Rush prod while the DVD sounds as heavy as a truck, so good.

R40 is great but geds voice is pretty much gone by then. R30 is the last one where he can still do the high notes without sounding like an old grandpa

Yeah I'm reviewing some parts of R40 right now and was just thinking how Geddy's voice sounds pretty weak : /

It's a shame but it's to be expected at that age.

yea dude but the setlist is fuckin amazin so makes up for it
so pissed they didnt come to the UK for that tour, but i got to see em on the clockwork angels tour so i should quit being a whiny bitch

I only got into them in 2021 and they became my 3rd fav band so yeah I'd be thankful. Shame I'll never seen them but I much prefer that over missing the chance to see them while they were still active.

"It's a shame but it's to be expected at that age."
God, now I'm dreading what James LaBrie's gonna sound like at that age, given his current vocal ability. lol
Then again, he's pushing 60 so I guess he's getting pretty close

imagine being into rush for 40 years and they never once toured australia :D
