That synth sound is so out of place, like, didn't anyone say ''Hey, guys, wtf?''

Next album gonna be worst than this?

nah... The same or maybe better. ADTOE wasn't excellent but had decent songs.

Adtoe has breaking all illusions which alone makes it better than this

It had songs with cool solos. They don't have to be groundbreaking. That, alone makes it better than this. From here, I dig only False Awaking Suite, Enigma Machine and Illumination Theory.

ADTOE was their best album since Octavarium imo, simply because it was consistent, it had high quality songs. It was not groundbreaking, so what? It was typical DT, but some of the best modern DT they have ever done

Build me up is one of the worst songs they ever did, lost not forgotten has some dumb parts, and there's three ballads. Even so, only black clouds is better than it since octavarium

I don't know why I like ADTOE so much, but there's just something about it I find so awesome. To me, it's like a modern Images & Words. Not only because of the few stylistic similarities, but also because it perfectly represents the band at its best. If I&M defined DT's earlier period, ADTOE defines what the band sounds like in a more modern context. But without the immense flaws in consistency SC, BC&SL and Octavarium had.

I keep telling myself that Build me up is not a DT song. Rudess has some cool keyboard tones on it but
it's basically an ode to Disturbed, one of their influences

Well, honestly I've never considered Disturbed as one of DT's influences, man. And anyways, Build Me Up is still better than any Disturbed song

Why would anyone write a tribute to Disturbed lol

Ask John Petrucci

Yeah I think he said one of his fave bands was Red, so I guess he likes nu-metal...

Comparing I&W to ADTOE is bold Talons. I don't particularly like that album too much. I think it's one of their better ones of recent times but almost all DTs albums are similar to one another. they really need to do something different next year

''they really need to do something different next year''
Now that you mention it, how do you see their tactic of making a record every two years?

It's too intensive. I think Portnoy was completely right when he wanted a 5 year break, because how it
works now is just releasing every idea they have and they move on too quickly without realising how
shit it is. If they had a break, they'd write more material and be able to discard to shit ideas and
make a really good album. They're too keen and it damages their songwriting capabilities

Exactly! Inspiration is no fridge to open and get what you want, and refill it with whatever you want to, as well. Of course I'd like a new LP from a band I consider one of my favs, but if that comes with shitty music, then I don't mind waiting. (NOTE: no Tool-like proportions, though)

Likewise. I wouldnt even listen to the album after the first listen if it's crap anway. Haha yeah, they don't have to do a Tool or a Wintersun, but a break to get some fresh ideas (lyrically and musically) would be very much welcomed

I think three to four years are more than enough for a band to gather its pieces and start composing quality material. Oh, well.

I agree. They should listen to more Porcupine Tree too to rid their habits. Their material now just feels like the first thing that came to mind, so of course it will full of "fun" solos and catchy chorus'. Petrucci needs to sort his shit out now, before he loses it forever
