Commercial music is by definition music that is intentionally written for the sole purpose of making money. Well-crafted pop music like Blackfield or PT's catchier tracks isn't necessarily commercial in its essence

Firstly, that's not the proper definition of commercial music, but whatever. Secondly, sure there's a lot of muzak, but my fav artists? No, they're doing well-crafted pop music.

Makes me wonder what's so well-crafted about Blackfield. Because the lyrics make Fear of a Blank Planet read like Dostoyevsky, the compositions are laughably simple and the melodies banal.

I'm not particularly fond of Blackfield, but I consider a few of their compositions (the title-song, Open Mind, Once) as "well-crafted pop music." Still, there is a lot of utterly unimaginative songwriting throughout their discography

Now, let's define "well-crafted pop music": music which centers on the song as a main medium, creating a short, cohesive and rather accessible piece of music, while still retaining a certain musical and sonic quality in its melodic and harmonic elements. On the other hand, badly-crafted pop music would rehash simple melodic jingles and patterns, broadly

Also, while I do value lyrical content in music a lot, pop music's focus is on its accessibility, and well-written lyrics can be a valuable addition, but not a fundamental one.

And it's not necessarily because they're my favourite artists that I picked them as examples, but because they were contextually accurate and correspond to my (obviously subjective) definition.

You have to a very very boring and uninteresting individual with an inferior musical comrpehension complex. If you like this there's also a very high chance you have an abnormally small pecker so watch out myth. :P

T/t is such a treat, love how the bass bounces between the main riff.
