paranoia seems to be a fairly prominent theme on every DG album so i would answer by saying no band gets paranoid better than this lol

No matter what the themes are you can't take 'em seriously cos of marker penned up penis.

Jesus. The opener on this thing is like being at an under 16s disco from which you have to leave early and as you're waiting in the carpark for your dad to pick you up some shirtless, homeless crackhead starts shouting an inch from your face, so you can smell the breath and feel the spittle fleck your face.

every time i listen to this album with people, i hear it more as 'meme rap' to shout along with my friends. but then when i sit back with it and pay attention to the lyrics, it goes SO FUCKING HARD and i realize that it's not so light and there's some deep shit here. polarizing record to say the least for me haha

People have been using it as a legitimate term lately. I don't know what the fuck is going on.

"Anyone who uses meme rap unironically needs to off themselves"
hard to disagree

People will apply the term meme alongside anything made popular through the internet that they don't like
The word meme has no meaning anymore

MemeSalad is right

I remember when memes were actually internet phenomenons made possible by pure spontaneous internet synergy between strangers. Now and days, people just say it's a meme and then it's a meme. Get off my lawn.

Aggreeed hard, Fourth. It pisses me off when people discredit lyrics just because they're given absurdist delivery.
|
| |
Also, I agree with you Fourth. It's not just the songwriting that shows it, but the actual production and presentation just feels really depressing once you start rubbing away the "meme" context that the internet has created for it.

Well, thats what happens when /mu/ circlejerks an album into the stratosphere. It happened with In The Aereoplane Over the Sea and it's happened again. You will still have your rational people who can understand what the album really is meant to be taken as, but they'll all be silent in a sea of shitposters.

if you take lines from this album out of context, they definitely don't seem as intense. the line "TOO MANY HOS IN MY MOTHERFUCKING MEAL" comes on when you're blasting it in the car, i'm not going to peal apart what it might mean, my friend and i just get a kick out of the mental picture of ride having a bowl of slutty girls for breakfast. i get deep with meaning on my own time. the meme-ing of the lyrics just draws attention to them.
tl;dr clearly dg is more deeper than a memeband, and ride is 1) my fav "hip hop" lyricist 2) a genius on this album.
