I hope their next album is good. 21CB, Uno, Dos, and Tre all have great songs on them, but are all bogged down with filler. Hopefully they'll decrease the amount of filler on their next one.

Theyre going to keep getting worse and worse the further down Billy goes in his "im still 20 im still cool" rabbit hole.

Heard the title track playing at the gym the other day and decided to check out the reviews.
This hasn't aged well, but it's no surprise, at it is a product and commentary of its time. To me, it will always be a Bush administration criticism album, because that was the time it was released, blew up the on charts/radio, and spoke to the budding political and socio-cultural frustrations of 14-15 year old me.
"As a band, Green Day appeals to younger people, and perhaps it is that appeal that allowed them to so tenderly guide a younger generation into acceptance of their flawed but beautiful country, to become who they are in the shadow of a land that sometimes causes them pain and seems to work against its own interests."
Nailed it.

This is an album that is kind of freeze-framed in 2004, which means it can't age well. That doesn't mean the record has gotten any worse in time though. Just like Vietnam protest albums that are no longer relevant but carry a ton of historical and social importance, I feel American Idiot falls into a similar just more modernized category.

I'm pretty sure they need to make a sequel at this rate.

they've already tried. thats what 21cb is supposed to be.
really curious about what they try next. the trilogy has enough highlights that couldve just been one album instead of 3 albums with quickly written mediocrity. hopefully theyve learned...

I hope they leave well enough alone with American Idiot. It would be exciting to have a sequel, but I'm almost certain it would flop and simultaneously taint this record.
If Trump gets elected you can be sure they'll whip something crazy up, though.

Yeah I still don't get why bands make bloated albums or spread stuff out across 2-3 discs that could have easily been one solid, concise album

Probably the most important album ever for me personally, it's aged really well too compared to the shlock they released after this.

Agreed hard.

definitely up there in importance for me too
I would say more influential than "personally important" though - this album almost singlehandedly pulled my ass out of 70's classic rock worship and brought me into modern times, but once I was there hundreds of records became more important
