how is asking for fans to pay directly to the band annoying, capn?

its better than all the money go to big record labels, or multi national companies

because it's going directly to the band. they're the ones that set up the campaign.
fans will want their money to be supporting the artists, artists are using the money to give material to the fans. there's like literally no down side to crowdfunding except for the risk of setting too high a goal or having shitty rewards or something.

ok so maybe I'm not 100% sure that the money is going directly into the pockets of the musicians, but it will 100% be going towards the band touring and recording.
how is crowdfunding a bad thing again?

maybe because you don't tour and only make bedroom demo albums (not trying to sound rude sorry :-[ but you know what I mean) so it doesn't cost you too much but it's fuckin expensive trying to make it in the industry these days. especially for a metal band in australia. don't know about you but i don't think these guys have a spare $40,000 just laying around.

they're asking for the fans to support the band (i.e. what fans want to do) by buying stuff that the fans want, in order to fund bigger and better material for the fans in the future.

if you or anybody else doesn't like the band or what they're offering... you don't have to pledge. but obviously people do want it and they're willing to spend the money so what's the problem. and that's not just for NeO, it's for most crowdfunding campaigns set up by artists, if not every one that i've seen.

What do you mean by "make it"?

Drummer from Katatonia quit so he could get a real job to support his family. Katatonia is way more known than Ne Obliviscaris and if he didn't "make it" I doubt these guys will.

Even if they do reach their goal (which they probably will) what about the next tour and the one after that? Will it always be up to the fans to make it happen?

I'm not questioning how expensive a tour is, that's besides the point.

That's not "besides the point." That is the point. That's why they are doing this campaign.
I guess I can understand your dislike of asking for money if you're one of those "it's about the music" type dudes who releases your stuff for free because you don't care for the monetary values. But like, would you be happy investing thousands of hours and dollars into your music, possibly millions over the course of your career, and not seeing a single cent from it?
Obviously this band is not like that, nor are 99% of artists. As much as everyone hates it, money makes the world go round. NeO are realistic and can see this, hence asking for cash from their supporters, which they will get anyway (albeit in a smaller amount) if they just did small tours and released their albums normally.

What do you mean by "make it"?

Just meant that it costs a lot to do the things a band does -- touring, recording, etc. Didn't mean anything about being well known or commercial.

I think the point of this campaign and tour is so they can get enough money to stay on their feet. Like, they've toured Australia multiple times, and they went to Asia last year, but this is going to be a massive world tour. Touring is where bands make their money.

But crappy brutal dm bands aren't doing intercontinental world tours. And NeO aren't "begging fans for money," they're just selling their product, as any business works.

"we want to get big because we want to make more money because we think our music is worthy of being as popular as all the big acts and we want to make as much as they make if not more"

where has anything even remotely similar to this been mentioned?

what's wrong with asking people to invest in your business? while i disagree due to my political/economic alignments, the point of most business is to make some money not break even.

and you dont HAVE to give them money either. some points being completely missed itt.
