Yeah, yeah, that quote was already old in 1989.
Seriously, though, it just wasn't as good as the previous albums. Burton was the driving force behind Master of Puppets. Both Mustaine and Burton were metallica's spark at the beginning. I just wish they kept going in the same direction and with as much energy but Hetfield and Ulrich clearly don't have as much talent to create songs as Mustaine or Burton.
Hetfield's definitely the better lyricist (between him and mustaine), though and no one will argue with that hehe.
@deezer: lol ^^

"but Hetfield and Ulrich clearly don't have as much talent to create songs as Mustaine or Burton."
Between Kill em All and RtL, Mustaine has like 6 writing credits max, where as Lars and James have writing credits on literally every Metallica song not named Anthesia, including the first three albums, something you can't say about Cliff or even Kirk, although those albums are def enhanced by Cliff.

"@JamieTwort: No it's not. It's another way than the one you use...no reason to call people retarded because you do things differently. People were disappointed because this isn't metal. I sure was. Hence the low rating."
Being disappointed because it's not the style you were hoping for is fine but to judge an album as a metal album when it isn't a metal album is ridiculous. That's like giving Opeth's Damnation a death metal rating.
"Imagine going to the sequel of a movie...say The Lord of The Rings. In this movie, however, they turned it into a romance comedy and removed all the fantasy parts. Still the same cast, still the same director...totally different thing. You were expecting the sequel...you're getting something else. You're going to be disappointed. Someone who went in there not knowing what it was might enjoy it, though."
Imagine going to see that movie and then saying "that wasn't a very good fantasy adventure film". You wouldn't say that if it clearly wasn't a fantasy adventure film. That analogy doesn't work.

I can understand someone preferring this to the black album tbh.
I do also agree with that Faenrir guy about AJFA being significantly weaker than the first 3, although not for the same reasons.

Kill 'Em All destroys Justice for me.

Eh, Kill Em All is awesome but for some reason it doesn't strike me as being as mature as Ride the Lightening, Master and And Justice For All. The Shortest Straw is repetitive af, but other than that I love that album. And other than the bass. And other than those annoying drums. Ugh. If that album had a few tweaks, it'd improve it astronomically. It's frustrating because it would be so easy to do.
