nu metal, lololololol.
God, nu metal is an overly hated genre[2]. I know there were nu metal bands like crazytown, hed pe,
adema, limp bizkit, hollywood undead, methods of mayhem and more which were awful but genre had other
decent acts ( old mudvayne, sevendust, crossbreed, old deftones, spineshank, notthingface).
Never consider RATM a nu metal act, more like a rapcore or an alternative metal act due to the fact
that the guitar work of those fellas has less distorsion and because RATM have guitar solos, besides
RATM doesn't have a murky bass like fieldy or ryan martine. By the way, Zach's lyrics are very solid
and well constructed.

Granted, a lot of punk bands write lyrics like those (Anarcho-punk bands specially), but Ratm claim to try to deliver deeper messages than them when they usually really weren't (usually, sometimes they can but thought provoking), punk bands tended to acknowledge what they were.
Like I said tho I still like this, I don't think I'll ever hate it bc it was such an important album to help me get into harder metal pft
I'm surprised the average is so high in this place though most music communities I've seen don't think very well of this, rym is actually flooded with negative reviews for this lol

I don't recall RATM ever claiming that they were delivering their message with any more depth than the punk bands that laid the way for them.
|
| |
They didn't talk bands either especifically or generally, but in a lot of their interviews they kept talking about spreading the message and bringing the truth and yadda yadda yadda
|
| |
RATM message is not deeper than the one preached by anarcho punk bands ( specially the spanish ones which are annoying as shit), but the lyrics were better constructed and were more interesting.

Well, at that point Gwyn, I almost look at it as an issue of art =/= artist. I get where you're coming from, but there are so many great bands out there that know how to make themselves look like total shitheads when talking about their music.

And Verm I actually agree with you for the most part.

Thanks deth, album is a classic. The only problem I see here is the preachy attitude of zach and that's due to his background, and the other problem I see is that the video of bombtrack in which they defended sendero luminoso really makes me wanna kill small kittens

haha, I love this album with all my heart. I find the guitar playing innovative and extremely catchy, the vocals are as angry as they should be and the rhythm section on this album is one of the best I've listened. Plus, I was around when it was released and it had a huge impact on me.

Sweet, never knew that side of you man. I guess I sometimes tend to associate you a bit too much with metal, hard rock, prog and classic old-school stuff sometimes.

Oh yeah I do love all those you mentioned but there's a few 90s stuff I'm into such as doom, power metal, stoner, gothic, etc.
