I dunno, most atheists I know (I myself being one) respect Christians' views like we expect our views to be respected. I think maybe kids (like 14 year olds) and ignorant people would say stuff like that, but why would you listen to these people who are probably huge contributors /r/atheism and what not?
But I tend to be around intelligent people where ignorant opinions are looked down on

In regards to religion; aside from, most wars, the crusades, arranged marriages, the suppression of women and homosexuals, suicide bombings, condoning slavery, etc, there are very few things I have a problem with.

I've witnessed several things and the experiences are ones that many people would call impossible bullshit, but they're true and taken my nerves and stress to whole other levels. It is great that I have been in a couple situations where there were other witnesses or I came back with proof but this is extreme luck cuz I would have thought my ownself commitable The feeling when you have witnessed the "supernatural" and aren't alone because of others having faith in you or witnessing it too is absolutely otherworldly

sounds more like the issue is the institution of religion, not religious doctrines themselves. i'm not a fan of organized religion either, but SS's point was judging religious people on an individual basis.

you can't say that because religious doctrine evolves. 100 years ago i'm sure religion prohibited interracial marriage, in 100 years religion will have evolved to a point where homosexuality is accepted as well (regardless of what's written in the bible or w/e holy book)

Why would you even bother about doctrine and dogmas? Read the book by yourself, meditate upon it and aspire to find meaning and revelation through. I can say that's one of the most beautiful journey's I have taken in my life.
