i like your optimism regarding the new album, but i think the idea of "warming us up for whats coming" is really stupid.
i'm not saying that mikael is/isn't doing that, but why release something mediocre for the purpose of making something better later? its opeth, they have the freedom to take time if they want to, why not make the best album you can. people don't need to be warmed up to music like this. its essentially 70s prog. aka music that has been around for 40 years

Yeah that's what I felt when I had listened to the album, it could've, neigh, should have been a lot better. But you know how hardcore fans get, some are too narrow minded, maybe Mikael wanted this as a test (even though he says he doesn't care what the fans think, which is a good thing). And their was a backlash because of the absence of growls. But this is only speculation of course, maybe this is actually the best thing he could come up with at that point in time.

sorry man, it just sucks. i want to like it, and a couple tracks are alright, but i just never want to listen to this. when i do, its a chore. its not the absence of growls or the change in direction, or whatever. its just no good. i've listened and i've listened and i've listened, and what a waste of time that was
