nah

even though the national's lyrics are a bit more obscure in some places they are still more real than anything here

emotional connection is definitely part of it, as it is with any music

but the thing that makes this so great is that it has somehow managed to relate to so many people

Definitely helps that the first time I heard this was at an extremely fragile moment, I was visiting my girlfriend who moved 8 hours away and a bit before our final time meeting ended I found this in a cd store and listened to it all the way home.

oh man jesus is tied for the best with limousine

but you aren't alone in thinking that the second half is weaker; i just happened to love both halves equally (how someone doesn't get chills as the riffs and screams blend perfectly together on Welcome to Bangkok, jump out of their seat at the borderline possessed freakout scream at the quietest part of Luca, or fight back tears during Handcuffs is beyond me)

Millstone is awesome

and the loss of innocence theme is such a natural evolution from the opener, Sowing Season

i'm sure it is, i just think that musically it's less interesting than stuff like degausser and limousine, and not as catchy as archers and not the sun
