"Elitists" I've encountered online that dislike this usually dislike melodeath as a whole.

I jam this all the time though and can easily hear this album's influences in melodeath releases as recent as this year, hard pressed to find a more influential album on an entire subgenre.

Agreed, highly influential album, almost too much so. If melodeath had a bit more to offer outside of the Swedish variant and its close derivatives, it would probably be a more interesting genre.

I don't dislike Melodeath, i dislike this. Maybe this is the first metalcore album?
