ok just watched the UEFA Inter v Spurs game. Is Bale the best left midfield in the game or what?

Pretty much. Followed him his entire career since he started with the team I follow, who somehow lost the money they got for selling him.

where was he beforehand (soccer newbie), also since that was the inter leg, does that mean on agg, the spurs only need a 2 goal win now etc?

That game was part of a six game group phase. The Champions league contains 32 teams separated into eight groups of four teams where each team has to play home and away against every other side in the group. The top two from each group qualify to the next round (I assume you know but just in case; 3 points for a win, 1 for a draw, 0 for a loss). So essentially Spurs could lose at home to Inter but still qualify from the group depending on other results.

I believe their group currently stands:

1. Inter Milan [7pts]
2. Tottenham [4pts]
3. FC Twente [2pts]
4. Werder Bremen [2pts]

The next round consists of a home and away knockout phase played against the winner of another group (if you came second and vice versa if you came first). Each knocout phase is decided on an aggregate score and if at the end of the 180 minutes after two games the score is equal on aggregate the team who scored the most away goals goes through. Obviously, if this also is equal then it goes to extra time for half an hour and could lead to penalties.

The competition continues like this until you reach the final contested by two teams at a neutral stadium selected before the competition began (this year it's Wembley in London). The final is only one leg so it all comes down to that one night. Exciting.

Awesome, although I think YP usually sounds a lot better than that.

And Southampton was the answer to your question. They're currently in 3rd division.

Also I'd rate a few LM's higher than Bale, but when he's on form he is pretty much unplayable as much as it pains me to say.

Yeah, but he's still young & has improvement in; that's the scary thing.

I guess they are struggling unfortunately. Just want them to make the playoffs as they still look the most dangerous team in the division when they want to. Same old $hit: Beat all the top teams & lose to the bottom teams.

In a pinch, can Wilshere play defence like Bale was brought up playing?

Wilshere's been playing extremely well as a DM recently...

Bale is a good left sided player - can play on the wing, left midfield or left back and is accomplished in all 3 positions, although in all honesty - he's got some work to do defensively; his positioning isn't always great at left back. Bale is 21.

Wilshere can play anywhere in midfield, on the left or right, on the wing, as an attacking midfielder and even as a holding midfielder. He's not as fast as Bale but is more creative and a much better passer of the ball; and he too can score goals etc.

Neither seem awed by the big occassion although I'd say Wilshere is more consistent and although only 18 I'd still say he seems the more mature player in terms of decision making, technical level and the speed of which he improves his game.

Bale has broken into a Spurs team who don't really have an out and out left sided midfielder, whereas Wilshere has broken into an Arsenal team with the likes of Nasri, Fabregas, Ramsey, Rosicky and Arshavin who play in his role which speaks volumes in itself.

I'd say both are quality players but I honestly believe Wilshere is the bigger talent and has much greater potential (expecting something of an English Fabregas).

I apologise... & so do the others I'm sure.

So, where do we currently have this on our year-end list people? I'm at 2 or 3 at present.
