Some days ago I read that DT wanted ACoS to be a part of I&W but their producer at that time denied them the inclusion due to its length...

If that was on this album then this would unquestionably be their best imo

Yea, James doing angry vocals doesn't work anymore. It sounds so faked. My expectations are very low

You know what would be interesting? A list of the worst DT songs! What do you guys think are their worst?

That's hard... Probably a lot of the filler ballads from the last record, and the really forced, wanky-ass metal songs they made on Systematic Chaos.

About the new record, I rather see them go in a style that's more geared towards this record. I like the soft stuff and happy stuff they did here and on The Astonishing, so I'd love to see them go into that direction but just don't go overboard with the ballads and length like last record

perfect album time? 50 minutes.

Yea, I'd say 45 to 55 minutes is the best length to me. Alcest have some 42 minutes records and their length is perfect too.

I recently came to the conclusion that 35-50 minutes is the ideal length for an LP. Anything more than that generally means that you are probably not being critical enough about your own songs.

It depends on the artist and the ideas they have. Can't deal everything with the same strokes of a brush.

Agreed Calculating, for some artists it is the perfect length though. I feel like most artists want to write longer albums, but most of the time it just gets boring and the material isn't engaging enough to fill 50+ minutes.

Of course not. But albums are a lot like essays; you have to find a balance between coming up with good ideas, and adequate explanation of those ideas without excessive belabouring. I find that a lot of the time, with exceptions obviously, longer albums don't have better ideas, they just have more bad ideas or flabby directionless songwriting, and could have been improved with leaner approaches to songwriting.

Yeah, it's a practice that plenty of bands have done. For me, it's when you hit the 80+ minute mark you really got to justify the length.
