@DBlitz i also think the placement of wind & walls straight after the title track is great. you can tell he's probably worked on trying to be a bit more varied on the new album.. though it's not too different from his earlier stuff or this, just more instrumentation and sharper production

leading me now, wing & walls, 1904, and revelation blues were the standout tracks on my first listen...

i thought the vocal melodies on the title track were really strong too

At the moment I don't think that his new one is even close to this. I expect it to grow on me though.

y'all have no ear for subtlety
the new one is definitely up there with shallow graves, and I'm tentatively giving it tons of room to grow i.e. reach wild hunt
so many strong points so little weak points
and personally I'm just waiting for some of the lyrics to catch on and sink in because that's usually when I fall in love with a Matsson record anyway

"y'all have no ear for subtlety" you'd be right about that with me. probably one of the reasons i can't appreciate electronica/ambient as much as others around here, but what i dislike about the album wouldn't be fixed by focusing more on the subtle parts of the album. it's just not anywhere near as catchy

actually i don't know what you mean by that with this new album, everything is fairly upfront. what's so subtle about it?

ya, hopefully the melodies sink in more, but that's my main critique as well.

I've only listened twice and I was doing other things on both occasions, but first impressions are that it's not as strong as this, or Shallow Grave. Like I said, though, i expect it to grow to some extent at least.
