That's not necessary. i have real life doing that to me right now, like really bad.
I love this band, but overall I hate 90s melodeath. I respect the influence it carries, but the production is so bad, speaking generally.

I think melodeath was way more creative in the 90s when it was first emerging. Way more sprawling, nonlinear song structures

Sorry, just saw your edit.
'I think melodeath was way more creative in the 90 when it was first emerging. Way more sprawling, nonlinear song structures'
And new, technically. And I get that. But I listen to shit like Crimson, and the best 90s albums from the main three of gothenberg these days and it just sounds really outdated. A lot of garbage out there yeah, but a few modern bands sound way better than the pioneers did back over 20 years ago, just listener experience wise I guess. idk im a bit drunk.

What’s some newer stuff that you like that you’d also say is comparable sound-wise? The more neo-classical approach is probably the biggest draw for me when it comes to the early stuff, I listen to early DT and At the Gates very regularly

I have yet to hear a modern melodeath band to release something as refreshing and original as this, with the exception maybe being Persefone

Sorry, i was very drunk last night, but I gather my thoughts are, no the stuff I prefer isnt as original as this at all. I respect this album's influence and the others that came out around that time too, but I don't enjoy listening to it at all. For example, I feel like DT really peaked in the 2000s, with Damage Done, Character, and Fiction sounding a whole lot better to me than this. They fine-tuned their formula and wrote killer songs, and the production is just way better.

I def like Fiction more than this but I love a lot of the early melodeath albums.

I can see where you're coming from Ponton, their later stuff is certainly more focused and polished, this has a different feel to it and much more adventurous approach to songwriting, but it also has much more raw emotion and so much epic riffs and melodies that I can't help but fall in love with it. same thing with a lot of pioneers in melodeath or metal in general, there's just that special charm to those early albums the bands just can't repeat later in their career, no matter how much they mature and tighten up their songwriting. my guess is you probably prefer modern (2000s) metal in general so I can see why something like this would be off-putting to you, it's pretty old school. you can't tell me you don't at least enjoy Lethe tho.

You nailed it pretty much.
Lethe is alright. Still in this album with the same production.
