Jammed this whole fucking thing today. Emotionally spent, but Helpless Child, Live Through Me, The Sound, Empathy and Secret Friends are all immaculate jams.

i can't wait for this to be out in vinyl. a while ago Gira said this would be the next record they would rerelease but that he has no idea when it'll be done. i'm assuming they'll be remastering it so that's quite a lot of work

well that didn’t take long, Gira posted on facebook that the remastering and everything is done. 4LP vinyl out early next year

Never jammed this band but I'm thinking I need to.
Gonna listen to this now because it seems to be the most well received. Any suggestions on where I should go after this?

wow. listened to this at night in a car driving across Kansas. friend and I were really confused as to what the overarching story is here, there def seems to be different characters / voices and this looming evil figure. really patient album, not my style at all but I can appreciate the scope of this album.

first time listening to this in about 2 years and have a whole new perspective on it now.
From what I have gather, the record is essentially an allegory for the failing health of both Gira's father and Jarboe's grandmother(?). However, I do feel that Gira's father is the main focus as he was going blind. I feel the record is more or less a way for Gira to restore the sight onto his father's sensory deprivation, with the abstract soundscapes being a way for him "see" again both the beauty and horrors our eyes let us sense. Albeit the record is infinitely more tragic when coming from that perspective.
Sorry for the artsy fartsy ramble, just thought I'd share this here

4LP boxset and CDs are up for preorder. boxset is nearly $80 with shipping, once it’s sold out a regular gatefold edition will be released. check out young god records for US and mute records for overseas

Ok I need to be straight up, I'm listening to this for the first time right now, and this kinda sucks. This is also coming from a guy who can enjoy listening to Trout Mask Replica, which probably sounds like noise to most. There is damn near nothing in this that is coherent at all. Nothing. I can't remember anything I just listened to, and there hasn't been a single moment on this that inspired or impressed me. Maybe I need to listen to this again to understand, but honestly, I feel like this album is considered good because it's so esoteric and incomprehensible to the point that people just assume it's genius. This is album is bullshit to my ears, and I don't know if I want waste my time listening to it again.

Yeah this album is soooo vast in its soundscapes and influences that it really feels discombobulated and confusing...I like the idea that this is some synesthesia project for his dad and the fact that there's tons of different characters and settings throughout this album makes it all encompassing, in a way. other than like 2-3 songs tho I couldn't name you a highlight either...but I think that it's supposed to have this certain sense of being overwhelming

This certainly isn't Trout Mask Replica. Give it a few spins at least

It can feel more like a compilation or movie soundtrack, but the tracks feel like they fit in the same universe. To me anyway.
