This is better than private music.

I think it has higher highs but a couple of tracks are worse than anything on private music. If you could somehow re-record some of Chino’s screams on Genesis to the shoutier vocals on private music, and move Error somewhere on there that’d be gold. my mind is a mountain doesn’t have shit on Genesis and Error is just one of the best songs they’ve ever written.

Instrumental production is really really nice but most of the time the vocals are kinda misplaced in the mix. I get that it's part of the 'Deftones sound' but more organic sounding vocals would be a lot nicer imo.

Record still not really my favourite I suppose, but it has grown on me a bit. For sure a lot better than Gore in my book.

Saw someone on r/deftones say this record feels like it's drowning in cough syrup and I think that's the perfect description

I listened to this yesterday after having spun private music a while, and I still think this just sounds so much better (both musically and in terms of production). This is like Diamond Eyes but better; the new LP is like Gore but better.

Never understood the hate on Gore, that album is just as good as the rest of their discog honestly, and has some of their absolute best songs, Hearts / Wires and Phantom Bride

Genuinely don't know how anyone can find this album better musically in particular. There are so many non-ideas here, so few harmonies, infectious melodies and songs that feel bereft of any creativity when it comes to riffs. Some of these songs practically don't even have riffs for the better part of their duration.

The whole album is an indulgent slog, songs go on for far longer than they should and the extra runtime is unjustified. Production is fine, but the mixing of the vocals is terrible. Chino sounds horrible, he's very pitchy and all over the place.
