Does anyone truly know where an album ranks on first listen? For me, albums always grow on me over time. Ohms didn’t achieve that though. Lol

Idk I really thought Ohms was my favorite on first, second, and third listens… now it’s probably number four. I’ve been listening to a Deftones album a day leading up to private music and fully intend on ranking every Deftones song so if yall just wanna come argue with me expect that list in the coming weeks

The singles from Private Music feel like a slightly better produced Gore, which was my least favorite Deftones album. My anticipation is still high, though.
Ohms is my favorite 'tones, closely followed by Diamond Eyes, White Pony, and SNW.

Fair assessment of Ohms earlier here. I think Pompeji isn't very good either but it's better than Pittura and Lmirl as far as bad Deftones songs go. I like This Link is Dead even though yeah it is a bit derivative. I do think the songwriting overall is more interesting on Gore with songs like Acid Hologram and Geometric Headdress. God I love those tracks. The band just didn't always hit their marks.

Pittura is literally probably their worst song ever but I don’t mind LMIRL. Xenon is a total fucking snooze too. Back to back with Pittura makes for the worst stretch on any Deftones record imo

That's gotta be a 9-string on 'cut hands' no?

pittura's intro sounds like a shitty demo from a high school band

I could not agree more. Probably the only riff Steph has ever wrote that’s outright bad
I wouldn’t be shocked if there’s 9 strings all over the new record, I’m pretty sure he used them for this one too?

have yet to listen to gore but damn, 3.4 average?

This has always set consistently at fourth best 'Tones for me after Diamond Eyes, KNY, and White Pony. I expect the new album's going to push it down to fifth though. If it's basically KNY Part 2, that's going to make it AOTY material

New Deftones then Fleshwater then Crippling Alcoholism in the same month we're feasting like king

Fuck yeah dude crippling alcoholism is amazing. Both that and the new tones are for sure aoty contenders… I don’t like Fleshwater as much but they’re solid.
It’s gonna be fucking hard to beat Deafheaven tho for me at least

I listened to deafheaven compulsively for a week then never touched it again and feel no desire to listen
That's never really happened before, I'll give it another go soon

It’s been on weekly rotation over here… it’s def my album to beat at least
Still no 5’s this year for me, maybe this record will change that.
