Listening to the title track for this again and it has some of Carpenter's most interesting guitar work. Those ascending and descending guitar riffs in the opening and closing are great. Funnily enough, "Ohms" could have easily been a track on Gore. Reminded me of Phantom Bride in spots

I couldnt resist and gave it a second listen but Ill refrain from now on. Im telling you if you listen to "Graphic Nature" and "Departing the Body" back to back youll see its a sequel. It even has the "Surprise!" line thrown in, same guitar riff and all. That cant be a coincidence.
On its own it would probably be just a good Deftones song but its cool they throwed that nugget in there.

Solid Deftones album, but it honestly pisses me a bit off that the only two breakdowns on the album are complete ripp off of Diamond Eyes and Rosemary.

Yeah, Ohms doesn't hold up after 5 years. Still good, still better than Gore but I find myself listening to it the least. It just kind of drags. The songs are solid but just lack energy most of the time. That's what has me so excited based on the two newest singles...they have urgency to them.

Yeah, I never got the hype for Ohms. It’s better than Gore but that’s about it.

Ohms being better than Gore is a meme. Gore suffers from some production & mixing issues, but songwriting wise it's far better than Ohms. Ohms is probably their worst album.

To be fair, I probably play the same amount of songs that I like from both records, but both have their fair share of snoozers. What's special about "Pittura Infamante", "Xenon" or "(L)MIRL"? I know some people really dig the latter but I find it totally meh. Same can be said about this one, "Pompeji" is one of their worst songs, "The Spell of Mathematics" goes for a bit longer than it should, "Error" is only saved by that ending and "This Link is Dead" sounds too derivative from the self-titled album (so does the title track of Gore). But really, "Genesis", "Ceremony", "Headless" and Ohms title track compete as stand outs along with "Prayers/Triangles", "Phantom Bride", "Rubicon" and maybe "Acid Hologram" (which has very cool voice effects, trippy stuff). "Hearts/Wires" is a nice ballad that Ohms lacks, for sure.
I honestly find "Geometric Headdress" and "Doomed User" to be just good songs the same way "Urantia" or "Radiant City" are. So it evens out for me. But hey at least this has better production and thus a little bit more of punch overall because of it.
Rant over

Its good, private music, but not the best in my opinion, to much reused ideas overall but its still better than gore and saturday imo and maybe even ohms.
It sits right in the middle of their discography for me.
