I was wrong anyway. I Hate Myself's 10 Songs was the first emo album I ever heard.
And Loma Prieta's I.V. was the first screamo album I ever heard.

Agreed. There are so many current emo bands that are painfully average it hurts. Empire! Empire! and You Blew It! are two of my favorites that are currently active.
