one of these days i will run the imagine dragons discog in full so i can more clearly evaluate all these Imagine Dragons comparisons these bands get. because there's something about them that's very much different than something like this.

"i don't think imagine dragons is that accurate of a comparison, someone said Bastille a while back and I feel like that fits way more"

His voice reminds me of Bastille's singer. I can't really compare to ID, because I've heard like two songs from them way back and barely remember, but I do recall not caring for them.

it's like ID moreso in that it's plastic and highly superficial pop rock, big shallow power choruses, etc.

But does ID have diamonds in the trees and pentagrams in the night sky?

Yeah, it is often on the commercial side, sometimes a bit more than I'd like. But I also don't think ID is doing songs like High Water (their best song IMO) or Gethsemane. Or even something like the Offering or Emergence (though I could be completely wrong, since I have a very limited amount of knowledge about ID). That is to say, I don't think it's fair to dismiss all of their catalogue as superficial and shallow, even if some of it skews that way and/or has cringe lyrics. I don't believe they're god's gift to music, or doing something unheard of like some overzealous fans do, but as a prog nerd who doesn't mind some pop there's a fair amount I find to appreciate in ST's music.

I wasn’t minding this all too much but during glimpses when the lyrics shine through, the cringe is a bit much

Why would you put yourself through such misery.

It finally came to them being on the radio in my area. According to the man behind the mic this album is "simultaneously brilliant and obnoxious".

I just realized Infinite Baths reuses the hook from Look to Windward. Neat.

"Why would you put yourself through such misery." I'm even more tired of the erroneous comparisons every (especially -core) band that gets a little more melodic and anthemic gets to that stupid band and I want to more accurately correct them

less objective more "i'm tired of this comparison so i'd like to be able to put it to bed"

i remember critic youtubers like crash thompson were always saying any band who went more arena-rock with "bleep bloops" got "eaten by the imagine dragon" and it's kinda annoying that that's STILL a point of dunkage

tbh i most remember that comp being extra annoying when bfmv released gravity - though the band themselves recording a radioactive cover may not have helped matters

"i'm tired of this comparison so i'd like to be able to put it to bed"
you're not going to convince anyone of this for the same glaringly obvious reasons those comparisons were levelled to begin with, and trying to have your cake and eat it re. bothering to make and defend substantive tales vs. throwing hysterics when anyone does this to support a opinion you dislike is a particularly choice to go about it
but don't let that stop you from wasting more time pounding your head against yet another wall smeared with online bs

allow me to level with you, i feel like these tenuous ID comps are as inane as comparing every pop record to brat or imaginal disk because that's all they know yet calling out that came easy to you - the ID comps feel like the boss baby meme in music form

"venin just discog binge u2 instead" heh, maybe

imagine dragons have done more than enough to earn their place as a by-word for frictionless, digitally polished R&B-lite vocals carrying the most vapid pop tracks you heard in your life, but if you want to reach into your archive of dogshit pop-crossover scene acts and pull out a better example, be my guest
fwiw I agree with whoever it was that said Bastille were the better comparison as a whole, but that's not exactly a rung up

maybe for this band it's not as far off, but them being a catch-all whenever ANY scene band goes for anthemic arena melodicism (i've seen it against ARCHITECTS ffs) just feels like these people haven't heard any other arena rock, ergo boss baby and exactly like what you said about brat/imaginal disk comparisons on new pop albums
