Picturing a 90 year old jaymz rocking out in a motorized scooter does bring a smile to my face

i feel like they absolutely could make another legitimately relevant banger album if they dropped metal ful stop and went for a slower load-style sound with some of the country vibe of there recent acoustic stuff sprinkled in.
james's voice is by far the strength of the band at this point and they need to embrace that.
like imagine an entire album of original material akin to turn the page, loverman, astronomy, bleeding me, outlaw torn with james's current vocals. would probably be pretty great. they need to drop the "old guys still got it!" gimmick and embrace their age.
they would never ever ever actually do this though. as much as i dig this album its obvious this only exists so they have an excuse to tour the next couple years. hardwired too, don't think they have any interest in pushing themselves creatively at this point

Garage Inc. is right up there with my favorite Metallica releases

honestly they should just do another garage inc. metallica are a really solid cover band and this album had tons of throwbacks to the metal of yore, so just do another album covering priest and tygers of pan tang and call it good

The cover song guys would also buy another self plagiarize album and tour so why bother paying for royalties?

Alex is totally right. Just make some twangy shit. James has a hard rock voice at this point (and can flat-out sing now, unlike in the 80s) and it would work so beautifully in a more downtempo record. And he's a big ol redneck anyway.

Anyway, this album has gotten so much undeserved praise. Like if there was a 2023 album for Pitchfork to torch, it was this one, but they and everyone else weirdly brought their kiddie gloves.
It seems like the bar they were judged by was "they're alive and can still kind of play their instruments" (in Kirk's case, I'm not sure he even passes that test).

I don't know what people expect from a Metallica album in 2023 lol.

Yeah, the solos are comfortably the worst thing about the entire album. And I love how Kirk defended himself by being like, "but it's just improv, guys! I didn't want to write my solos out this time!" lol

Maybe Kirk's still mad that his hard drive of riffs was lost.

Caught both the STL shows this weekend, nothing else in live metal compares.
Highlights were Blackened, No Leaf Clover, Orion, Sanitarium and Day That Never Comes.
Disappointments - Still haven't seen Until it Sleeps or Bleeding Me live. I actually was really hoping for Frantic. Didn't play Battery, did play five 72 tracks.

Sanitarium was fucking awesome. Blackened was sick too, and opening night 1 with Creeping Death was just amazing.
|

I really thought Blackened was gonna be Battery, so was floored when they busted it out. Just the sickest riff ever.
