There's nothing cooler than parody cheese metal!
I fail to see how this was that influential on the genre. Everything heard on here had already been done before, maybe not as unrelenting (or dare I say monotonously) as this but nonetheless this didn't exactly break any new ground or bring about any kind of change in the genre.

You realize Priest were in their forties when they made this, right? Making an album with this much energy and power this late in your career is pretty impressive, and it showed that any band can make a great album no matter what age they are. And I don't see how the lyrics are any better or worse here than they are on something like British Steel or Defenders of the Faith.

Did you actually read my comment?
I said it wasn't very influential. I didn't say anything about whether it was impressive for their age and I didn't say anything about the lyrics. A band making a 'powerful' album late in their career has nothing to do with influence. The only thing you're late for is changing the subject after realising the errors of your previous point.

Lol dude, look. People know this album doesn't quite have the songwriting skills of Sad Wings, but that's not the point. The reason why most people love this album is because it's a high-octane energy thrill ride. It's the same reason why albums like Reign in Blood are held in such a high regard. It would be like complaining a Mad Max movie has too much action and not enough intellectual ideas, it's not the point. Painkiller retains all of the energy from it's first track until it's last, and that's why it's so loved.

'It's the same reason why albums like Reign in Blood are held in such a high regard'
very bad comparison

@Blender: I know all that. You were the one who brought up influence, not me. The album does have energy, I never said otherwise but that doesn't mean I have to like it just because it's energetic.

I know, I'm just trying to get you to understand why people like this.

I'm sure he knows why people like this one. It's just that he doesn't love it. To me when someone's in the mood for some balls out heavy metal, this is one of the best choices.

This whole discussion reminds me of when SomeSayShesNaive gave Rust in Peace a 3 and dissed it for being too cheesy. Come to think of it, he didn't like Painkiller either...
