The Omerta shows looks fun as hell. I'd might as well watch them go tour to tour instead of waiting for Suicycle

Looks like Static Dress is going to be opening for BMTH too https://www.reddit.com/r/BringMeTheHorizon/comments/yznrip/static_dress_confirmed_as_the_new_support_band/ , stoked for them. European tour, but I hope they come back to the US soon. (I know they aren't even gone yet but I miss them)

I knew they’d be huge the second I heard this album.
They’re bringing back this emo core sound and they’re doing it better than anyone else. These guys are really gonna blow up. I could really see them headlining festivals in a few years time.
Good for them. They’re incredibly talented guys, I wish nothing but the best for them.

I saw Static Dress last night and fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck they were so good. The crowd was electric too. I'm still buzzing from it.
Omerta were total fucking dorks though. Their mini singer kept crying for the crowd to circle pit and was pleading for energy the whole time despite a majority of the crowd actually jumping around and moshing. He kept saying "you're a coward and an idiot if you aren't moving!" and "wHaT tHe FuCk ArE yOu LoOkInG aT?!?!?!" Like yeah bro our bad for looking at the band on stage. The band was good but they came off so desperate that it was cringey.

Think the only pissy opener i've seen was islander opening for norma jean. vocalist was begging and pleading for more and more audience participation despite getting a pretty decent amount already. He stopped the show about 3/4s the way through and said he wanted a "rolly polly pit" and had everyone lie down and when the breakdown hit start rolling around... which went down about as well as you would expect. And if you didn't want to roll around to "pull your tik tok cameras out". Shit lasted like 15 minutes before they started playing again
gf and i were just chilling at the bar the whole time, felt so much second hand embarrassment that I apologized to her for bringing her to that bullshit

Why do some bands get so weird about crowd participation? I can understand wanting people to get into the show and music, and wanting to be able to see that for yourself, but is it that big of a deal? 🤷♂️

i think artists with a punk/hardcore/metal type sound can just get insecure when the crowd isn't moshing or the circle pit is weak or nobody moves during a breakdown. think for that style music in particular a lack of crowd participation is just demoralizing for the artists because at the end of the day that is the purpose of all the cliches of those genres. to get people moving

woof lots of ick in here. well put alex, sounds about right. however, talented artists just pivot and put on a killer performance if that's the case. i've gone to a lot of shows where i was there mainly for the opener who was relatively unknown, and could tell they were just focused on putting on their best set
u leave a show thinking "wow what a killer opener i need to check that," not "haha they made us roll around, called us cowards, and wasted a bunch of their time being pissy, i should check that band"

went to see a shitty indie band that a friend of mine was in once. was politely standing to the side leaning on a pillar for most of it becuase i get back pain when im standing up too long. Halfway through the set the singer starts motioning for everyone to crouch down to get them all to jump up at the same time. There was no fucking way i was doing that with the state my back was in.
band looked at me like i was a complete dickhead. But hey, i came to listen to music, not to be forced to participate in crowd shenanigans
I think its worse at hardcore shows when they pull this whole 'get involved, dont be a pussy/coward' thing, not only because it reinforces the whole aggressive masculine douchebag vibe punk has always struggled with, but the participation is explicitly more involving and i dont want to have to explain my fucking medical history

I haven't been in a pit since I was a teenager. If I go to a show I just chill towards the back and enjoy the performances. Too many bands act like that's some sort of problem. Fuck off, I'll enjoy the show how I damn well please.

oh yeah absolutely, though i think crowd interaction is still important. saw the obgms open for pup like a week later. absolutely nobody knew who they were. first couple songs got no reaction despite being good performances. after a while they just start telling jokes and quick stories in between songs, did a couple call and responses, and by the end of their set they were getting 80% of pup's response. and then the vocalist came out during pup's set to do a song with them and the roof blew off the building, jumped into the crowd and easily organized a wall of death. shit felt like a movie lol was a really cool experience
i def think when you have an unfamiliar crowd in front of you, if you can win them over with your personality all the sudden they will like your music a lot more too

That's the way to do it. Show the crowd you're worth getting that energy feedback from by giving a strong performance and having some charisma.
The weird thing is that a lot of people were actually jumping and moshing during Omerta but I guess the dude was too sad that the entire place wasn't mayhem. He and the guitarist both actually shouted "Fucking move! You're not too fucking cool for it!"

Real good responses here!
"Fucking move! You're not too fucking cool for it!"
