Im checking Lantlos for the sake of context, they seem alright so far, half the album done.

"Prog is one of the most unoriginal genres tho"

You can say the stupidest things sometimes mate or generalize on things too much and sometimes I agree with you, but man, not in this thread so far XD.

it depends on what you mean by prog, there's a lot of prog that is actually quite regressive, but if you consider crazy shit like unexpect and sleepytime gorilla museum to be prog, then i would disagree that prog is unoriginal. but if you're talking dream theater and that type of shit, then yes, that is seriously unoriginal music.

if you haven't heard Lantlos, you should listen to .neon. That's one of the formative classics for blackgaze.

'Well unfortunately on a site like this, the ratings speak louder than words. I don't care much for what you think, or feel, I care what you rate. And to rate this album a 1 seems a bit out of context. Fine, don't like it. But at least the band tried something and created something.'

This is a million pages ago, but just wanted to say congrats to whoever wrote this bewildering comment. Interesting perspective.

Hmm, there's quite an obvious flaw in this comment, but I can't quite put my finger on it. Silly Pika.

I mean, there's a reason why so many users meme on prog, because it's one of the easiest targets to shit on within the metal/rock scene

I have yet to meet someone I didn't dislike who liked modern prog as a genre beyond their teen years (me included)

Btw guys if you really think the Lantlos-Wilhund singer is better or sounds better than George I really don't get it, for me it's just worse , is more bland and more noticeable the lack of range.

The sound of the album in general is more vivid, wich can make it more fun, has more variety to it at times too but it lacks an important thing for me, I can't connect with it, it's too "cold" I would say, too stiff.

Gotcha

Yeah, exactly, JS

Old-school prog is awesome though (stuff like Genesis and Uriah Heep)

Cult of Luna.

...but you'd never call one of your fave modern bands 'progressive' because you hate the term and everything it (doesn't actually) stand(s) for.

I know you're going to disagree with this on the basis they're not a 'prog artist'... well I fail to see where the line is, they have prog elements and they are innovative. Don't restrict yourself to such absolutisms and narrow-minded views. Prog = bad, lol. Ain't helpful.

Cult of luna is sludge/post-metal

Just because they have long songs doesn't mean they are prog

I don't listen to a lot of modern prog but I love Leprous and I think they are pretty good.

@Pika: post-metal has so much in common with prog though, it's progressive by its very nature. Again, your view of what prog constitutes is too narrow. It's an easy way of throwing out every single band that's done anything innovative to justify your 'prog is bad' schtick.

Okay then, what about Ulcerate or Ad Nauseam? N O T A P R O G B A N D.
