That’s fair @robert. I was being a bit facetious with the plagiarism comment. I guess that makes sense though, this definitely is establishing itself very much in the 70s s/s tradition. I guess it just doesn’t bother me though, I think the songwriting holds up and if anything it benefits from the way it doesn’t attempt to hide its influences. Like I said before for all intents and purposes I don’t know any of Lana’s work outside of this so I can’t say how it stands within her oeuvre. If anything it works because of its influences and how self aware it is about them - I don’t think she’s trying to pull a fast one on anybody with this, so to speak, and so the affectations don’t actually bother me. I compared this to Father John Misty before and I like him for the same reasons (though he does of course layer the irony and self-awareness on a lot harder than this does). Ultimately even though the influences here are old it manages to feel quite contemporary. I’ve heard plenty of other artists/albums this decade that ape past decades a lot more shamelessly than this does. So what if she was trying to write the next best American record? I think this is a good enough contender.

Lol check the metacritic scores.
I suspect people were feeling a pressure to like this to be on the pc side of history.
Fucking cowards.

Liking lana's rapey 70s fantasy is the opposite of PC

^That's just slutshaming.
You don't get the complexities of PC culture. When it's a strong woman who says it, you applaud her bravery.

I'm one of the least PC people on this entire site and I enjoy this. To me it's less about her 'image' and more that she's got an amazing voice and these are largely her best songs to date (Born to Die, Video Games, West Coast, etc. are all wonderful, but they were few and far between -- this is consistently excellent). Antonoff - love his style or hate it - is also a perfect pairing with LDR.

I think literally no one is surprised this was so high on the list. It's that same Kacey Musgraves crap all over again. Average pop album sweeps every list. Great
