The drumming itself is great, he's a great drummer but whoever approved that mix is a muppet

It's got some serious hype behind it.

Metalsucks put it at 9 on their list of best metal albums 2010-1019

Agreed on the drum sound being fucking horrific. Good album though

Laen they sound compressed and fake.

I thought we were done with the whole "super sterile and super loud" drum thing after djent started to die.
This albums rules and all that but I just wish it had a more organic production and softer mixing.

Listen to the into of Old Nothing (:24) where he is blasting after the double kick runs and you will see what I mean.

I donno, honestly the whole album for me is really fucking loud and sterile (the metal parts anyway), I thought that was just everything. I personally prefer the mix in Monarchy.

edit: as for fake/compressed, generally most modern metal on this end of the spectrum is compressed the fuck out of, and drums are commonly programmed. Doesn't make it any worse in my eyes, just different.

I agree chug. The drumming could have been mixed better.

Weirdly enough, the quiet sections sound okay. I assume that's because of the mix being less cluttered than the metal parts.

It's a shame, the drummer is clearly quite skilled.

Agreed, songs off this sound much better live, esp the t/t.

i think this would be better with riffs. not sure if this is a hot take but usually metal is better if it has riffs

They don't need riffs if their chugs are catchy and they can write great songs with them

i cannot be the only one who thought they were 100% hearing halo ODST music/ambience from the single player. im talking about the 1st track, & also beginning of track 10.

Was watching a few BangerTV reviews and this was lauded multiple times. Listened to only the title track and I enjoyed it . Might have to check the rest.
