There are themes like anxiety and there's still childishness, but I don't know it seems more clever and self-aware now. The musical style is also more up my alley than pop punk.

And that vibe fits perfectly. The lyrics and the music combat against each other so well, and the fact that it's so blatantly addressed on tracks like fake happy and hard times makes it all the more cynical. Love it. Their best album (coming from someone who enjoys all their stuff). Shows their mature growth as a band, doing something different while still keeping their identity. Instant classic.
Best tracks - Fake happy, 26, Tell me how.

agreed, and i have more tolerance for pop punk myself lol but i get ya. i'm glad that their early years were unabashedly immature tho -- it's more human and relatable, even if it can be naive.

I still like Riot the best but I do agree that the sound is very of its time

Just joshing with you. haha
I totally agree. The early albums do feel human and relatable, but to be fair, I don't think that ever stopped in their music.

I appreciate that Arthur meme. I have good memories of watching that show in my younger days.

"Easily their best album and Pool is their best song."
Pool is the best thing on here but this album kinda blows compared to their usual output. And I hate pop-punk, never really considered these guys that except for a few earlier tracks

alt rock / pop rock / emo in the way hayley belts / their own genre

Yeah that makes sense. I guess they just got put under the pop punk label because of their surrounding bands and who they were associated with. Same with how MCR gets labeled as "Emo" when they really just aren't. They are more gothic if you ask me.

Panic! also still gets labeled as emo and I'm like "do you even know what you're talking about?"
