Demon what are your questions? I've heard all of their albums many times and they're one of my favorite bands.
Edit: With Ulver I'd just start with what kind of sound you're most interested in hearing, cause all their albums are pretty different. Bergtatt, Kveld, and Nattens are all atmospheric bm and folk, so if you want that style check those out. (Kveld is only folk, no bm) and if you want dark, pastoral avant-garde/ambient electronic with a little rock check out Svidd Neger, Shadows of the Sun, Wars of the Roses, Messe, and ATGCLVLSSCAP. Perdition City is future-noir ambient electronic and one of their best too. Marriage and Blood Inside are zanier avant-garde rock with lots of genre-bending, their two busiest sounding albums besides the bm ones. This is art pop/synthwave. They're very adventurous to say the least haha, and jazz comes up at random times in a lot of their albums too.

My personal choice would definitely be to go with their first 3 albums to see how they progressed but I think Talons is the guru here haha

"I'm surprised no-one has (seriously) muscled in & given me the lowdown yet, thought peeps would be gagging to display their superior wisdom."
Best thing to do? Make a list.

Imo Marriage is pretty bloated so if you wanna jam it you better make sure you have the time lmao, think its like 2 hours?

Marriage is one hour & 20 minutes long. The last track has 20 minutes of silence at the end for some reason.

And it's not that great, especially if you're just getting into their back catalogue. I'd recommend Svidd Neger for an underrated gem around these parts.

For sure, their albums with 3.5+ averages in the EPs and Compilations section listed on this site are worth hearing.

Nowhere/Catastrophe could've fit on here nicely.
Album would've been a 4/4.5 then.

@Talons
Thanks, yeah I'm interested in Bergtatt as I'm expecting (maybe incorrectly) some similarities with Agalloch (particularly The Mantle) & I really want to hear their electronic stuff as well. Less interested in a full album of folk, but might check it out afterwards. This album is more of a curiosity than anything at this stage.
If I have any success then I'm sure their other stuff will be in play at some point.

Yeah maybe the album just felt longer than it was then, or maybe I wasn't *quite* in the right mood for it then. It's still great, still a 3.5/5 from me, but idk if I would start with it. But again, u the guru bro.

You could definitely draw some comparisons to Agalloch, maybe more like, Pale Folklore Agalloch though.

The Bergtatt influence on Agalloch is most prominant on Pale Folklore and not so much on the Mantle

The Ulver influence (from their first three albums) on Agalloch, especially Pale Folklore and The Mantle, are pretty prevalent. The only folk section on Nattens (in the first song) is practically copied in I Am The Wooden Doors from The Mantle for example.

As a whole however I wouldn't say the vibes you get from The Mantle are that similar to what you get from Bergtatt

Whatever happens I think it'll be an interesting journey at the very least.

For sure Demon. The Mantle does have different vibes than Bergatt, it has a lot less metal for one thing.

Of course, not expecting a carbon copy, just heard it contains some similarities.

bergtatt: majestic choral mountain folk black metal with atmospheric interludes
kveldssanger: amateurish but charming folk music, enjoyable acoustic work
nattens: raw animalistic BM that's really a hate-or-love it album. i think it's a really beautiful album
themes from william blake: i never understood this album
perdition city: "music to an interior film" a film noir for sure. imagine walking around a cold empty cityscape in the night. trip hop, electro, ambient, atmosphere-heavy (in spades), experimental.. extremely beautiful and pensive moments. the opener and closer are some of ulver's best tracks
lyckantropen times OST: soothing, gentle ambience album
a quick fix of melancholy EP: EXTREMELY underrated ulver release, kind of experimental rock oozing with charisma
silence teaches you how to sing/silencing the singing EPs: the creepy ambient sections of perdition city compounded into 4 awesome tracks. beautiful but terrifyingly eerie. one track was sample in the horror film sinister, which was probably the best part about that film. the two EPs are masterpieces in what they do
blood inside: chaotic industrial/electronica, some high moments and some low in my opinion
shadows of the sun: somber, melancholic, majestic, beautiful; i think the 'modern-classical/ambient' tag fits this one well. + an awesome black sabbath cover
war of the roses: IMO the most underrated of ulver. charismatic gothic rock with soaring vocals
childhood's end: an album of nothing but 70's era psychadelic rock songs. super well done and super fun to listen to

in my opinion you should check bergtatt -> perdition city -> war of the roses
to get a good footing of how their unique footprint sort of transcends genres
