the 4.5's itt is fanboyism at it's worst
I love the Deftones, but this album is just plain boring

you would think this band is ground breaking by the hyperbole that gets thrown at them

WP is pretty ground breaking though dude. Not any of their other stuff, but WP is as critically acclaimed as it is for a reason.

I can see how some people might dig this but it's indeed being overrated. The fact this has the same avg as SNW is a joke not to mention s/t is wayy better than this and its only a 3.7

White Pony to an extent is a unique record i agree, i enjoy it at a lot. But at the same time its not exactly out of this world and certainly nothing theyve done since then has been as special as that record

Well KNY and DE have 4 and 4.2 avgs, and this is very much like those two. Most people who like those albums like this album too, hence the 3.9 avg.

Not everything they've done after that is exactly ground breaking, but I still adore most of their releases. S/t is actually my least fav though.

thats fair enough, but then again i just like White Pony as a sort of one off, not really a general fan of this genre

Even if you don't like S/t it's far more experimental and interesting than this. Songs like Anniversary, Hexagram and Needles and Pins don't sound like anything in their entire discography.
Gore doesn't really do much to separate it self from the pack and for Deftones there aren't really any big surprises to be found

Acid Hologram is the least Deftones sounding Deftones song I have ever heard.

I'm finally getting into this more. The title track fucking rips. I really want to like Phantom Bride, too, but I can't quite get on board with the weird solo thing in the middle. The end is sweet though. I think this will grow on me more and more.

Acid Hologram sounds straight out of KNY.
But I agree, while I do like the release it is noticeably weaker than most of their albums. S/t is a lot better than this. Never understood the 3.7 avg it has.

Deftones have never been groundbreaking in any regard, in my opinion. Sure they have distinct unique flare like a lot of groups do but they're a fairly conventional band and always have been. I thought Gore actually had more 'experimentation' if you will then the previous 2 albums - with tracks like Acid Hologram and the title track

Loving the first three tracks back to back. The guitars sound so good.

Acid Hologram sounds pretty standard issue for Deftones. The most "experimental" part is the vox in spots and they sound just like the ones used on Elite.

So this is pretty decent. I've never really been into the Deftones, but I found this all right.

The chuggy/scratchy groove in Acid Hologram is ace.
Hearts/Wires has grown on me considerably, nice atmosphere.

These guys killed it on Kimmel last night.
