this and ae are about equal for me, this edges ae slightly because of 30 and general nostalgia. but the last verse on 30 is the realest thing ever

Speaking of his features... it's crazy how great they were in this era and how kinda half-assed they are today

glad people are realising this, lol. it's not just features he's been phoning in it sooo much since Old. like how did he record the verses to Dance in the Water and think "hm yeah I'll release this to the world"

Disagree so strongly lmao, AE is not the work of someone phoning it in. I do hate Dance In The Water but it has a great chorus

Dance in the Water has an incredible chorus/sample which is what makes it so frustrating that he went with

"Can you work it

Can you work it

Break it down

And just drop it low

You deserve it

You deserve it

Get it out

And let it all go

Shake it

Don’t break it

Bend over

And touch yo toes

You been waiting

You been waiting

Real playa

Get down on the floor"

are those good bars?

I think what Rowan is trying to say is that on AE (and Old?) Danny has been going all out on the beats and instrumentation to supplement for his I guess regression/laziness in the lyricism department. I mean I love Danny to death but I gotta agree with that. This album has easily his best bars, and everything he's rapped about on Old and AE he rapped about here. Everything after this has been the same shindig over different sonic palettes.

@Rowan 100% not at all but I fully believe that's a vibe song. Definitely still should have been better tho

I can feel that but I still think his lyricism is potent enough and combined with his restless experimentation and energy that he's still going strong artistically. I cab totally understand missing the crazy bars here tho

I agree. Still love Old and AE. Tbh this is prob my favorite hip hop album ever from a lyrics standpoint. Just sux that he went from that to maybe not even having the 2nd best verse on his own album.

yeah pretty much Alex, AE is incredibly production-wise which makes it so disappointing that Danny pretty much phones in a lot of the lyrics (Tell Me What I Don't Know and Ain't It Funny are the main exceptions, they still don't stack up to anything on this album). exact same situation with Vince Staples on Big Fish Theory, really
