Just like the majority of DT's work TOT onwards.

I dislike most of the work from Octavarium onwards, with the exception of BC&SL
|

BC&SL was good, especally the calm guitar break in The Count of Tuscany which was incredible.

The melodic part in nightmare is probably my favorite part of the album, that and the shattered fortress solo

Haven't listened to it a lot, but what I currently think is that BC&SL is good but a bit inconsistent. It has really good parts but overall it is just a jam of ideas put together.

The songs on BC&SL feel a lot more like actual songs as opposed to random wankery which is a lot of post 6DEG albums fell into, and it's definitely their best since then along with ADTOE

nightmare is inconsistent, but the first half of it is so good, especially the quieter moments

A Rite of Passage is decent I guess and Wither is one of their ballads that doesn't feel forced or pandering

a Rite of Passage is good until that completely unnecessary solo which comes out of nowhere and turns it into a wankfest

I like that part best because there's no Labrie singing and it's so rockin sounding

The first 4 songs on BC&SL are incredibly inconsistent and most of it is just a bunch of great riffs put together with some of the worst transitions DT ever made (like when they jump from the "Repentance" part to the "Root of All Evil" chorus in The Shattered Fortress). But then you get to The Best of Times and The Count of Tuscany which are some of the best songs DT have made since Metropolis PT. 2 imo

Decent solo, but out of place, abrupt and doesn't do the song any good

Couldn't agree more onirium. I'd say The Best Of Times is in their top 10 for sure

Yeah and one of their best ligther songs ever imo. Even with the inconsistencies, album is still a solid 4 nonetheless

It's one of their most sincere and heartfelt songs, which they could really do more of

Yeah but it appears that they can't write emotional music without it being fucking cheesy anymore... They did it in the past, with songs like Surrounded, Space-Dye Vest and The Spirit Carries On. But now their ligther songs are just uninspired
