Boney don’t listen to doof. This band is gorgeous and everything I want from this type of style.

I tend to fall closer to the Doof though the Ghandhi seal of approval (for one album at least) is surprising.

I thought this album was a bit of a mix of good and bland. But I have heard nothing offensive from any of the albums I have checked so far.

All I will say is the 5 good songs on this are reeeeaally good - but that makes it a really disappointing release overall for me

Esp knowing he never refined further - this is the pinnacle for M83. Dead Cities I’ve only listened to the once but didn’t grab me as much as the best moments here.

Ok maybe I revisit Dead Cities.

Listened to Saturdays = Youth recently and that was offensively beige

Mongi I think I’ve heard a few of those before. What I’ve heard from them (aside from “Midnight City”) always seemed a bit too soundtrack-y for me to want to go for a full album spin but I’ll give Dead Cities a try I guess.

Well, I’m case you guys haven’t noticed, I jizz over music that could be in a movie or evokes a scene in your head (;

Illinois is waaaay better than this... unless you’re talking about the actual place, but that’d be a weird af comparison, so probably not.

Well, I’m case you guys haven’t noticed, I jizz over music that could be in a movie or evokes a scene in your head (;

Music that evokes such images is great, but soundtracks inherently are meant to supplement images that are already there and hence can tend toward being more wallpapery, so for me to say something is soundtrack-esque isn't exactly a compliment lol

That's not to say that all soundtrack music is weak of course, there's plenty of classic soundtrack music...but usually only that which is associated with a classic film and thus doesn't succeed entirely on its own merits.

Well, yes OSTs you’re talking about. They’re meant to compliment that image but I value music that plays with the imagination and evokes a scene of your very own. It can be the other way around.

If Illinois was trimmed to eleven songs like Carrie & Lowell it would be close to the same quality and an improved listen

Anyway you approach it it’s a superior album to this though, by quite a margin
