@Evokaphile - yeah "surface level" stuff is different, as long as you've established it has some depth & it's not completely unlistenable it warrants a second go (& I usually won't rate it either at this point).
I don't go out of my way to find the surface level stuff but there are probably a few exceptions... or maybe it's an album by an artist you're already familiar with & they decide to do away with all the creativity leading to immediate snap judgements, rather than a more considered approach.
