I am not punk but having said that this album isn't punk at all because I would have probably hated it if it was

This album is very punk, whatcha mean? Not only punk, Teenage Riot is definitely more of an alt rock cut. But I always classify Sonic Youth from Confusion is Sex to Dirty as post punk/noise rock.

post punk isn't punk though. It is called "post" punk for a reason and sounds nothing like punk

Sounds nothing like punk? Then why is it a subgenre of punk? Idk how you hear Eliminator Jr or Silver Rocket and say this isn't punk at all.

"Then why is it a subgenre of punk?"
I don't know. it shouldn't. I hate punk rock and generally love post punk

Siouxsie Sioux came straight out of the punk scene into post punk. Johnny Rotten went from the Sex Pistols to Public Image Ltd. Post-punk is literally derivative/born from the punk scene. Post-punk has so much of the same raw energy, stylistic tenets, and rhythms of standard punk rock, but with different structures and a greater predisposition for auxiliary instruments. Punk, noise rock, post-punk, hardcore punk, no-wave, goth, post-hardcore, etc. That's all punk rock.

That's cool and all. I still hate Punk Rock.

Well, that's a bad take. Punk is so diverse, I feel like there's punk out there for everyone. And evidently you don't hate punk rock because you just said you love post-punk? lol But this is such a digression. My only point was to imply that I think Silver Rocket is an awesome song.

Exactly I do love post punk because sonically it doesn't sound anything like what it "evolved" from, thankfully.

Punk is often good as long as it isn't pop punk or melodic hardcore or some other whiny BS punk

If you're talking about The Descendants, then I disagree

I haven't done a deep dive into Patti Smith yet. Will have to listen to more of her

^ That's what I mean. Even regular punk has pianos and shit in it. There's so much variety in even the main genre. I dare a motherfucker to listen to "Rattus Norvegicus" or "No More Heroes" by The Stranglers and tell me that's not good or good but somehow not punk rock.
And saying that post-punk sounds nothing like punk only indicates a lack of familiarity with all the ways punk can sound. Reef, I think you'd like The Stranglers. And how do you not like Iggy Pop and The Stooges? The Clash? Ramones??

What kind of beta boy hasn't done a deep dive on Patti Smith wow

The Ramones are mad boring and The Clash are okay, but not my thing
Iggy Pop is cool

I'll stay by my opinion: Post Punk sounds nothing like Punk and I base that on the fact that I hate almost all pure punk rock that I heard and love a lot of post punk.

I almost wanna say you don't know what punk sounds like though. The fact that post-punk and punk occupy completely different realms in your brain instead of being in the same nuclear family sort of baffles me.
