"21st century breakdown doesnt have as much problems as the trilogy do."
Hmm... first of all, on paper this is pretty much a carbon copy of american idiot. Same ideas, but where american idiot sounded fresh and new this sounds as an opportunity to make more money from that big ai success. To say that this 'sounds like a green day album' is also cause for some debate in my opinion... green day for me (at least the good green day) goes back to kerplunk, dookie and insomniac... whereas this sounds nothing like those albums. Also, lyrics on this are absolutely cringe-worthy from start to finish.

and uno, dos, and tre are any different?
look, i dont particuarly like this album. i havent updated the rating for it, and i should move lower it to a 2.5. but its highlights surpass those in the trilogy, and its a way more enjoyable listen than any of the three albums in the trilogy. maybe its just a personal thing. the title track was the first song i ever learned on guitar, and the first song my band ever played live. this was the first green day album i ever owned a copy of, and there was a point in my life where i did genunely love this record. i find it a struggle to listen to anymore, and some of the songs here are absolutely awful (christians inferno, know your enemy) but maybe that personal aspect is a reason where im trying not to write it off completely or something. or at least, its enough to make me like it more than the trilogy.

Cool buddy. I'm not one to judge, to each his own.

thanks mate. yeah green day is the band that i have the most passionate opinions about, and it seems like this is the album that holds the most sentimental value, which is weird, because i dont like it lol. all 8 records (assuming you count shenanigans) that came out before it are far better, but this is the album where more personal opinions seem to come out. ive always thought uno dos and tre were garbage. but this album i used to adore. i dont know. this album is very conflicting for me now.

I get ya buddy. Though for me green day doesn't go very much beyond ai.

yeah
but ai is damn fantastic.
i think theyve hit the point where they dont need to try to make music that sells, which kinda sucks. ai is most likely their creative peak, and theyre usually not great after theyve hit it, but id be perfectly okay with us never getting good green day again. theyve given us enough good music. if theyve said all that they had to say, thats fine. the thing is, i still think simply from individual tracks on 21cb, uno, dos (not so much though), and tre, they still have something left in them. theyre just not trying.

I hate this more for the simple reason that by trying to be AI 2.0 (but with completely contradicting concepts), they ironically killed everything that AI stood for; also musically, lyrically and even vocally it's a huge step down.

pretend they didnt make any other albums

its the one youd like the most. dookies the best starting album
knowing you, you probably wouldnt like american idiot, but thats also a decent starting album.

Dookie is their most popular/accessible record behind american idiot, while nimrod and warning are more stylistic in sound. Insomniac is kind of a mixed bag, but still a good record.

CL0VER u dont dig kerplunk?
nimrods the most interesting record from the band. warning is pretty cool too
|

Kerplunk is fine, but going from Dookie to it didnt do the record many favors.

American Idiot is still their best tbh and everyone should start with that, followed by Dookie.

jesus of suburbias length never bothered me because its basically 5 two minute songs in one track. homecomings the same way
so if you like that, then check dookie. then insomniac, nimrod, warning, kerplunk, 39 smooth, shenanigans (its a b sides compilation but ha ha your dead and desensitized kick ass)
