agreed, cleansing was one of the BM tracks that got me into underground BM after years of listening to only cradle of filth and dimmu borgir no lie
These guys are actually a pretty peculiar entry into "underground" bm
Gonna go smoke a joint and listen to "Cleansing".
If I ever decided to start smoking I'd probably listen to these guys non-stop.

my music trajectory is all sorts of fucked up
i listened to only symphonic BM for years then i got this and taake's doedskvad and started getting into really underground stuff (that was when i first joined sputnik)
then in senior year in high school it was all death metal for the longest time until i stopped listening to metal haha

lol taake was the other band? man i'll say that trajectory is fucked up
for me it was like dissection/naglfar/agalloch leading to burzum/emperor/mayhem
|
| |
agalloch was during the transition cradle years but id hardly count that as underground BM
i didnt even like mayhem long after i started listening to BM haha

Agalloch is the band that transitioned me into BM, I don't remember what the first real BM band I got into was though.

Enslaved's Ruun did it for me (I remember reading a 5/5 review in Revolver and picked it up the next day). Also, I remember finding Emperor's Nightside... and Anthems used so I picked them up. I remember how fucked the production was on those records and it took me at least another 2 months before I would give them another chance.
Agalloch/ Burzum/ Darkthrone/ Drudkh/ all downhill from there.

I sat and listened to the bm channel on AOL radio nonstop because I wanted to be the one kid in school that knew what "black metal" was. Most of it was mediocre second-wave Norwegian I couldn't stand, but I did find WitTR and Agalloch that way!
I think Black Cascade was officially the first bm album I really enjoyed start to finish. And then it was like WitTR > Naglfar Dimmu CoF > Agalloch > and then Alcest in 2010 with Scales of the Moon. And now we have stuff like Deafheaven ^_^

you guys have a BM channel? God damn we don't even have a metal channel around here
also, check LantlĂ´s if you like Alcest

It's AOL radio, so kinda like Pandora. Acutal radio (like you'd listen to in the car) where I live never plays metal. Hardest thing they'll play is Metallica.
