That song was also my introduction to Thrice and it still owns.

Did you hear it from an Atticus compilation? That's how I discovered a lot of bands I still enjoy (and some I don't). Glassjaw, Finch, Thrice, Alkaline Trio...

I love Illusion for its depressing songs tbh...

Yeah, it may have been that first atticus comp. I wore that cd out in high school.

Most people who claim illusion or artist to be the best thrice albums just have a lot of nostalgia clouding their judgment

i can see illusion being seen as their best, but artist isn't even close.
vheissu wins for me, but i love the first 3/4 of alchemy, beggars and major/minor a similar amount. i think beggars > major/minor though, will have to revisit to know for sure

Beggars has more variety but major/minor is a lot more consistent, kind of an even tossup

I'd take Major/Minor over Beggars, but just barely. Neither is as good as either Alchemy though; I actually love Earth.

I've listened to beggars a lot more, so i just am more familiar with it. aside from doublespeak, there's really no downsides on it for me.
earth disc is a cool concept, but the songs just don't stack up to any of the other discs for me. and i hate that there's a cover on it, that always bums me out

I love Earth as well, muppelope.
I also laid on my living room floor during the peak of a mild mushroom trip as I listened to this the 2nd or 3rd time and it changed my life (you know, for like a day.)

Earth is cool. I actually really like the cover on it too, but I can understand not wanting a cover on there.

They covered it very well. I had no idea who Frodus was until I found out that was a cover. Slick track that fits perfect, imo.

Agreed. This is actually the only Thrice album I don't physically own, even though I absolutely love it. I need to change that soon.

I definitely think Fire is the best disc out of the entire Index.
They're all amazing.
I think I would go in order, probably. Fire > Water > Air > Earth. Might switch Water and Air though.

Fire has the least interesting heavy songs of their catalogue, imo- even though it is still pretty good.
Water >Earth >Air >Fire

Water > Air > Fire > Earth for me. Air and Fire are pretty interchangeable though. Lots of great tunes here. The Whaler might be my favorite.

The Whaler is soooooooooooooooooooo good.

the whaler is unreal. fire, water, and air are all almost perfect, but then there's one track on each which drags it down for me (arsonist, kings on the main, sky is falling) so i like those all about equally. fire and water were actually my first experience to thrice on a total whim buy when i was like 13. started something beautiful
