quite frankly i have heard anything better by anyone else and it is a very good album. i'm sure other people have heard it.

Amazing review, I had to read the first paragraph multiple times for it to click. I just bought this album today, along with "Lunar Strain" by In Flames. This is my first Opeth album and damn, I agree with all that you say. It's like, inhuman it's so good. The Leper Affinity is probably my favorite song but I've only listened to the album once so far.

The Leper Affinity is the easiest to enjoy immediately on the album. The rest of the songs all take multiple listens and some degree of focus before you start to notice the layered compositions and intricacies of the instrumental work. All of the instruments combine styles that aren't typically found in metal to create a metal song, which yields some very unique results.

Nothing was wrong with the first paragrap at all. It was just really sophisticated (I can't really find the word I want to say) that on the first read, I didn't quite understand lol. I had to read it again to understand. That's because it was really good, not because it was crappy though.

They deserve that praise. They kick ass. The onyl album I can think of that rivals this right now is Still Life, and prob some children of bodom albums as well. I've never heard Carriers of dust, though I heard "A Scream o express the hate of a race" on the sputnik page for the band, and it seems awesome.



I keep going back and forth, but right now, my fave song on this album is bleak, then the drapery falls, then leper affinity, then the title track. Those four keep switching around.
