I only ever listened to the opener before but I liked it, it was like the good aspects of that era's scenecore, gonna check this out

It’s really not that overproduced compared to modern deathcore and deathcore adjacent music, stuff like Darko that’s literally just electronic music with some guitar texture thrown in. Oli said in an interview that Matt programmed the drums on this which is the biggest thing that makes it feel a little artificial but I don’t really mind the sound after I took a bit to get used to it. Also Buster masters metal with OTT which is a compression plugin meant for EDM so that’s why it sounds super compressed, it’s definitely a choice but again I don’t think it sounds bad. I’ve never had a problem with really compressed mastering though personally.

and i hate all that shit man haha. idk why this gets a pass and like lorna shore gets ripped apart, usually by the same people. to me it's all bad! just an odd disconnect here. but time to get writing i suppose lol

I guess that’s fair although Lorna Shore is a bridge farther than this imo, this is still fundamentally riff-based whereas LS has all the synths and stuff. But I think this type of production would have bothered me more like 10 years ago, I’m way more open to more produced sounding stuff nowadays for whatever reason as long as the music itself is good.

this is only riff based because the original album is riff based. don't get any credit for that. the original is a fun album and the raw production is why it works.

Deathcore went downhill when bands just ripped off other deathcore bands and had no context of metalcore or death metal beyond their scenes
|
| |
simulacrum genre for sure. no unique influences or spins anymore like during the heydey where every metal genre was smashed together.

Yea its nuts to me that The Somatic Defilement and The Cleansing still go harder than most of the genre almost 20 years later

This Is Exile was so important for 17 year old me lol
Possession still goes so hard.

The low end on this is great, Oli still screams great and Lee can still shred. But the original still has something to it, like most recordings before all the in the box shit of today. The band was not in the same room and you can tell, I have grown fatigued of Amp sim guitar tone lol that is why Suicide Season sounds great still, they Mic'd a 5150 and it still sounds insane. I hear that drum recording is the most expensive part of a recording session so they saved a lot of money not going into a studio to record drums, but damn that would have been nice to hear because he can still play this stuff live. And some of the guitar leads sound a little thin, a bit of a shrill tone going on

That album still rules too, I think that album is a great example of greatly improved production not ruining the sound/charm of the band

I'd love to hear from anyone seeing them in the UK this weekend on how the shows are

This is really fun. The production works imo, though I do agree that the drums sound absurd.
And on the topic of Lorna, I think their production is way more offensive than this.

Just a hunch but I think Futures hates this
Idk man I thought this was pretty damn fun. I'm mostly impressed that this band can still put belt to ass this hard

i mean i don't like being that guy but i just have not heard a good explanation for why people enjoy this production, especially from people here who almost always prefer a raw mix instead of something electronicly overproduced. just trying to understand lol. because if any other band did this, they'd be ripped to shreds imo

to be fair though the band was not in a room together when they recorded the original cyb
"i mean i don't like being that guy but i just have not heard a good explanation for why people enjoy this production" its a case by case basis it just slaps on this album imo
