Yeah Jake is a monster on this. I wonder if Dustin is helping with the highs because I didn't think Jake really did them anymore, but some of these sound straight off Messengers

One minor gripe is I wish they explored the synth parts on the closer more

Which of the newer ones should I check next? I can see this one being a grower, I was surprised at how much I dug it

Death Below is great too when you're not paying attention to the slop album cover

Not sure how many you've heard, jr, but Rescue and Restore/Found in Far Away Places/Death Below are all great. R&R is a lot of people's favorite from them

Leveler was the last new one I heard before today. I'll give R&R a spin soon

Absolutely agree. When I heard that I started thinking... oh, damn, they really hit on something here, and we got a satisfying resolution, but I found myself wanting to hear the alternate universe version or even alternate universe album where they took a weird turn and dark-synthed more.

awesome to see so many back on board! and yes jake really does sound the best as he ever has. it's so rare for a band to make a really good "return to roots" album. lots of disasters and embarrassments but this is up there with their best. wonder if next they'll go back to the old well or a new direction. either way it will definitely be at least solid haha.

I will continue to love them regardless but I also will continue to hope for a curveball lol. I never hold my breath but would be sweet. But yeah if they go back to heavier shorter mad jams I'm bout it

i'd like to see them drop a full prog metal album, they could definitely do it

Jake is outrageous on this thing. Album didn't didn't click with me much on my first few listens but it's really pulling me in now.

@Futures a few months before dropping the album, they asked on their socials what kind of songs would fans like to hear on the next record, and I said the same thing. Technically they are one of the most capable metalcore bands (if not the most), and they've had some proggier cuts for a while on their records.
As for this one, hard to even say how happy I am with this record, and to see so many people coming back to ABR, but I'm really biased, these guys have always been my "confort food" band.

yeah i could totally see them stripping back the metalcore elements and making something really cool. they've always done clean proggy sections so well. would love to hear a full album of that.
and couldn't agree more with that second statement! can always flip on some sbr and have a good time

"'Constellations was their last truly stellar release.' "
Rescue and Restore clears Constellations. If ABR ever sounds like R&R again I will be ecstatic.

found in far away places is so underappreciated, more people should go back and revisit that one

That one took forever to click with me but I do love it now. At release it felt like they pigeon holed prog elements into metalcore songs and it felt disjointed instead of fluid. But yeah I like it more now

yeah i think that is their most proggy. would love if they leaned more in that direction. but really they can do any style of metalcore well.

Yooo LFG, Futures. Great writeup.
Never rly checked these guys out before outside of a couple songs i heard years back. Gonna give this a proper go

I need to tackle a discog run on these guys. Too many highly rated albums to ignore.
I’ve only heard a handful of their songs though and while pretty good, sounded kindof same-y. But I know the nuances will prob emerge with more listens.
Seems like the perfect band to do a front to back chronological run too, which is always my preference.
