The Will Ramos feature does absolutely nothing for me. That said, this is very good. Not as good as PV or P2 but it's a consistently entertaining listen and I secretly hope this was just a "get it out of our system" album and they've stretch their legs a little more on the next one.

i am of the camp that thinks ramos p much ruined deathcore vocalists but the feature is fine lol. sure helps he's super popular but they are probably friends and wrote a song around him. more than almost every big feature for other bands. funny though that imo he gets showed up by spencer.

“something being successful has very little to do with the quality of the music. I've no doubt these guys could do a high quality djent pop thing if they wanted to.”
But they can hardly write a good djent album as it is and Spencer is probably the weakest member of the band imho. So could they? They could try lol. I doubt it would be good. To me they excel at heavy and flail in the other areas. But occasionally Spencer does strike gold (It’s only Smiles)

Periphery comment sections are so funny because half the comments are complaining that the album is too heavy while the other half are complaining that they're too poppy. Repeat on every album since P1, which the prog nerds latch onto despite it being easily their worst.

Was initially disappointed by the smaller scale of this but most of the songs are at least decent and some of them are new favorites of mine. Talk and Heaven on High are new classic Periphery tracks for me. Absolutely love the outro track as well.

For me there is no “too heavy” or “too poppy”. They could go full pop and I wouldn’t care as much if it was good. The problem is Spencer has never been great at writing vocal melodies so a lot of their poppy stuff falls flat. They are typically good at writing heavy material and his scream is great. That’s why I prefer their heavy but there’s no like… improper balance of style

See I never understood that. I think Spencer is a master at crafting vocal lines that are memorable and catchy but not heard a million times before. I don't get why people say they don't like his vocal writing, like at all.

i think his verses can be a bit much at times but he is an incredible hook writer. scarlet, mile zero, its only smiles, catch fire, talk, everyone dies alone etc. tons of songs endlessly stuck in my head or just pop up.

Spencer is great with vocal melodies. It’s Matt who’s behind the scenes calling the shots on his vocal harmonies, especially on this album
